Orienteering race (Greenbelt Green) 1:41:43 [3] *** 6.1 km (16:40 / km)
shoes: Poison Ice Bugs

OK, I may have been remembering Greenbelt a little more fondly than I should have been.. because, it was nasty out there! I don't think I was in a good part of the map all day. Well, maybe near the end. I was slow, partly attributed to the miles yesterday, and the fact that I am carrying a spare tire around. Ugh!!!

BUT, it was a glorious day in the 50s, so I will not complain anymore than what I have already.

Again, over 160 starts - three meets in a row. Adding epunching to White and Yellow, and requiring it on all other courses sure keeps me hopping. Thank goodness for Darcy's help today.

Note

I forgot to take a power source to the meet today - no batteries, and no inverter in my meet kit. I knew I needed to supply power, but I just plain forgot. I got there plenty early to go out on my course, so I could have turned around and gone back for it. But instead, I called home and asked Roger to bring the batteries to me - about 30 minutes each way for him. Not only did Roger deliver the batteries, but he brought me a sandwich as well. I think I'll keep him.

Trail Run (Lake Accotink) 1:30:00 [3] 8.0 mi (11:15 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

A full day made fuller by sleeping until 10:15 this morning. Aghhh!
I was supposed to run this morning and print maps this afternoon (or vice versa), with the Georgetown game sandwiched in between. And then we had dinner plans for this evening.
Usually, the activity I would have blown off was the run, but it was just too beautiful, and since I was in the car anyway coming from the metro, I kept on going to the park.
And, I am so glad I did! Things were a little sloppy from yesterday's rain - just the way I like it.
Two laps around and a little extra to make 8 miles. The plan was run5/walk 1, and that is what I did approximately for the first lap. For the second lap, I walked all the uphills.

Marked splits were:
Lap 1: 549 502 539 704 512 519
Lap 2: 535 534 535 712 503 526

I was flagging a bit the last mile or so, but there was a young man running in jeans, and walking a bit as well. He would pass me, then I would pass him when he walked. I got to my favorite section near the end - when I can smell the car, and I waved him to catch up and stay with me, and we pushed it home. Two big smiles at the end - the universal language. I had a good week.

So, now it is 12 hours later, and I am printing the maps for tomorrow.

Running (Neighborhood) 27:36 [2] 2.55 mi (10:49 / mi)
weight:187lbs shoes: Orange Crush (adidas)

Nice enough out that I didn't hesitate (too much) about going out. Lungs burning the whole time, and I was struggling to take a pain free deep breath, so I finally decided to walk the return trip.

Walking 34:20 [1] 2.55 mi (13:28 / mi)
shoes: Orange Crush (adidas)

Pushed as hard as I could including up the big hill. Chest felt better when I got off the main street. Cold air and car fumes are not my friends. Still happier going out than I would have been on the treadmill.

Misc (THE DVD) 40:00 [2]

Seven months since I have done this, or even one sit-up, and it WAS NOT pretty. The first time I have had to pause it to catch my breath.

Hopefully, I'll get my act together to do it again before seven months passes me by.

Walking (Wakefield track & home) 40:42 [2] 2.75 mi (14:48 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

Jog down to the track, and then walked a lap between 400s, then walked home. Beautiful evening. Ran the last 20 minutes in the dark. Was joined just as it was getting dark by morons from some running group running the opposite direction on the track in all black. One women kept getting back into my lane even though she knew I was there.

Had a pear around 3 PM. I don't think my stomach liked it that soon before running.

Running (Track) 23:16 [3] 2.5 mi (9:18 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1223

10 x ~400 (lane 3)
230 230 228 227 219 213 215 210 213 209 (last one 832 pace).
This felt good. We'll see how the right hip feels later.

Tomorrow, maybe I'll try THE DVD again, or maybe not. Definitely a mental challenge just getting started on that one.

Running (Treadmill) 1:00:00 [2] 4.8 mi (12:30 / mi)
shoes: Orange Crush (adidas)

Wore my orange shoes which match my orange shuffle. :) I really need to get some better songs on that. I have too much of the same type of music, and the same artist. Music is so undistracting to me. My mind continues to race, and I can't turn it off. Topics today were electronic controls & epunches, and how I am getting them to where they need to go over the next month. Seriously, I need to chill, but I can't.

Anyway, I planned on 30 minutes, but was able to "run" an hour. Started running at slow pace of 3 mph, and increased it .1 mph each minute up to 6 mph. Then started back down. But it was too slow once I got back below 5 mph, so I went up and down every minute in that range.

Breathing felt good, and I did go fast enough at the higher speeds to feel it.

I tried to use Mary's little pep talk to get me outside, and though I didn't go out, I did do something. So, thank you, Mary.

My excuse for outside tonight was that the backup on 395 had put a ton of cars on my regular (and safe in the dark) route, and I just couldn't bear the thought of all those car fumes.
