Event: QOC Patuxent

O Training 30:00 [2] *** 1.8 mi (16:40 / mi)
shoes: Ice Bugs - Green

Successfully located the misplaced control and then found the correct streamer. Was nervous that I would screw this up and be out there wandering forever looking for the flag, so I set my FR305 to find the WP from yesterday, so I knew I was on the right track, though I took a roundabout way to it. Raining a bit.

Orienteering race (Pax Yellow) 26:04 [3] *** 2.8 km (9:19 / km)
shoes: 8 Orange

Ran the Yellow (unofficial), then a 20 minute break to read the Start boxes, and then back out for White.

Orienteering race (Pax White) 13:09 [3] *** 1.6 km (8:13 / km)
shoes: 8 Orange

White (unofficial). Too warm since it was ~ 3 PM, but I survived.

Good to get everything in this weekend, and it was a great meet today as well.

Unfortunately, I have a cold, or allergies, and with it my usual chest congestion. Slept poorly last night - maybe 2 hours, so I am exhausted. Hope I sleep better tonight.

O Training (Pax River Park) 2:20:00 [2] *** 7.0 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: 8 Orange

Watch time 2:41 without subtractions for time spent putting out controls.

Offered to help hang controls for Peggy today. Not because I needed more obligations, but because, at least, if I am obligated, I will not turn into a total slug.

This was a good day for so many reasons, and not so good as well, but only for silly reasons. I did get out of bed before 7 AM. Plus side - it was a beautiful morning, and the rain held off until I was in the car on the way home.

Also, on the plus side, I found a streamer in the vicinity of each control, though one was not exactly the one I wanted. Peggy had warned me that she had hung a streamer in a reentrant, but she had also hung a streamer in the correct ditch. Unfortunately, according to my GPS waypoints, I found the wrong streamer, which was much further away then what I expected the two streamers to be. I had looked around about 50 m on both sides, but it is probably 100+ m apart. So, I will correct this tomorrow, most likely in the rain. Additionally, on the minus side, I hosed 5/12 controls. But, I didn't hurt myself, so that is a positive.

Ripped a huge hole in my new pants - negative. Sewed them right away when I got home - positive.

Some interesting things - deer sneezes like Sam last week - quite startling. Also, pooches with numbered vests on running around the woods. The two I saw seemed to be quite disoriented, as was I at that point.

So, in summary, I have decided to declare today a really good day.

O Training 10:00 [1] 0.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: 8 Orange

Putting out three gallons of water.

Note

maprunner's log reminded me of two additional negatives for today...

1. spiderwebs - massive, though I only inhaled one spider/bug, so that was good

2. left heel pain - very intense after I finished. Sitting down, it was extremely painful to just lift my foot off the ground. I think I will ignore this a little longer.
