Scottish 6 days, Day 2, Ardnaskie
LL 4,0km, 185m climb

Had the first start time of the day, was in a hurry to the start and barely made it in time (2 min. after prestart). Somehow my orienteering mind got lost somewhere in the hurry to the start. Couldn't really match map and terrain in my head and made mistake after mistake in the beginning. Got a bit better after I understood that a marsh on white print wasn't a marsh in forest, then was followed by another big mistake in the light green in the end, where I found nearly every control nearby before I found mine.
Running wasn't good either - not that that would have made any difference today...

Details:
To 1) Was slow, but perfectly on track until shortly before the circle when I started getting confused by the mapping of the vegetation. Was moving superslowly from there on, understanding nothing and stumbling over my control by pure luck. 2:30 lost at least. Not a really good start...
To 2) Tried to forget about the bad start and orienteer very secure to the next control. As I still didn't understand any vegetation, that didn't really work out at all and I was changing theories were I am faster than I was moving. Finally found the right stretch of wood and the control, but surely not because of my superb orienteering ;) 3:45 lost
To 3) Finally a clear feature (the stream) leading to the control, so no problem at all finding the circle. Then managed to not recognize the exact location of the control and looking for it _ON_ the hill instead of next to it :( Another 1:30 lost
To 4) Finally a control that even I wasn't able to miss ;)
To 5) Could have gone a bit straighter maybe. 30s-1min?
6,7,8) OK
9) Lost some time compared to the others, can't really say why. Looking on the track it seems like I was superslow on the last part before the circle, can't remember why - insecure? At least 1 min. lost
10) And the final big mistake. Knew exactly where I was on top of the hill (at around 1:19:00) then came too far right, misread everything, came further right, found a control, had the wrong theory, came further right, etc... Finally realized were I am when I found a control at a boulder next to a hill and from there reached my control at around 1:32:00. Should have been not more than 1 or 2 minutes from the top of the hill, so at least 11 min. lost there :(
Rest from there was easy and unventful.
One of my worst runs in a while...
Total mistakes: 20:45, 20,8%
