Orienteering Competion race 56:14 intensity: (2:29 @1) + (27:41 @2) + (16:17 @3) + (8:26 @4) + (1:21 @5) **** 4.6 km (12:13 / km) +150m 10:31 / km

Last day of the Hungaria Cupa. Karst terrain in part of the course, i loved that part. Orienteering wise it was a good race, only on one leg I was out of my mind and made two mistakes on this leg. Otherwise good run.
Running felt better than the other days, but still have diffuculties with the running in this kind of terrain. Should train more terrain running...

Details:
To 1: Easy, spiked, speed seemed to be OK. A lot of people had bad splits there, did they really all made mistakes on this control? Or missing the start?
To 2: Easy, spiked, but a bit slow.
To 3: Spiked again, speed OK
To 4: Spiked. This is fun ;)
To 5: And then the one I was out of my mind. First got pulled out of direction during rounding the pit, then went to the wrong control. 2 min. lost there I think.
To 6: Spiked with an OK speed.
To 7: Spiked. Went a bit far left on the beginning, but that was intentionally as there was a path through the undergrowth from the other runners.
To 8: Spiked, speed OK.
To 9: Bad downhill running ability was costing me some time there, but spiked the control
To 10: Spiked again, speed OK
To 11: Seemed to be a control with desaster waiting to happen. Just running on a compass bearing along a slope and have to orienteer with a thicket, when half of them where missing or somewhere else in reality. Took it slowly and spiked the control.
To 12, 13: Spiked, speed OK
To 14: Spiked of course, but just wasn't able to run anymore on the first half of the leg in the forest. Lost some more time there.
Just 2 min. mistake, so a good run.

5. Day of Hungaria Cupa. Orienteering was OK, but once again I was just not able to run in the terrain :( Additionally I had a part of the course where I wasn't even able to walk fast, I was just feeling totally exhausted and had a speed of about 20min/km on this part of the course. After a few controls I didn't find strenght again, but at least my fighting spirit, so the end went OK again.
All in all I'm not pleased with that run...
Map:
http://bilder.m-ha.de/doma/index.php?user=Meike
Details:
To 1: Found the control easily, but made the wrong decision when walking uphill through the open instead of the forest, as the grassland was really bad to run in. 30s lost I think.
To 2: Spiked, pace seemed to be OK.
To 3: Good route, spiked the control, but was so slow on the slope - like always.
To 4: Was a bit insecure first, 20s.
To 5: Spiked, but should have been able to run faster.
To 6: I think the route choice was OK, I was just a too slow runner and lost time there due to that.
To 7: Spiked, running OK:
To 8: Spiked again. But started getting tired on the uphill and was slowly dying at the time I reached the top. Was walking very slowly at this point and feeling totally exhausted. Lost at least 30s on the last meters of this leg.
To 9: Orienteering was easy and I spiked the control. But was completely exhausted and thought I'd never reached the control. Lost about 3 min. there due to my very very slow walking along.
To 10: Spiked, but still walking along very very tired. Another minute or two lost.
To 11: Spiked to control. Realized when leaving 10 that it would take me ages to reach the finish if I continue like this. Didn't find to much new strength, but at least my fighting spirit and got along faster from there on.
To 12: Spiked again.
To 13: Spiked and was able to run faster.
To 14: Let myself be pulled out of the direction and on top of the hill by another control. Silly. 30s.
To 15: Spiked.
Should have been able to be 6:50 faster.

Orienteering Competion race 6:16 [3] *** 0.65 km (9:38 / km)

Mikrosprint on the Campus in the afternoon. Was fun, but I ran really bad. Never managed to interpret the small scale map right, so basically just run in the direction of the next control and checked every controls number on the way. Not the fastest tactic ;)

4. Day of the Hungary Cupa. Sprint in Downtown Miskolc in the midday heat. Made some unnecesarry mistakes (maybe about 2 min. total, I'll see after analysing the race), but running speed was surprisingly OK for me, even if it felt slow the whole way...
Map:

Mistakes:
to 3: Didn't see the uncrossable wall first, went wrong and had to go back a bit. 30s
to 4: ran into the wrong road first. 10s
To 11: Overshot, didn't see one of the entrances in the wall, went too far and into the wrong one, then had to go back. 1:20
To 12: Saw a control from far away, didn't check the side of the green - of course it was the wrong control on the wrong side. Then needed a while to figure out that I was also too far ahead. 1 min.
3 min. total :(

Second day of Hungaria Cupa. Felt better, but place was worse than yesterday. Maybe the course was too easy...
Map:
http://bilder.m-ha.de/doma/index.php?user=Meike
Details:
To 1: Spiked, but lost time on the uphill
To 2: Spiked and better running
To 3: Took a route around on partly paths on the left. Think it was the best one. Splits seemed to confirm that. For a slow runner I lost surprinsingly less time there.
To 4: Easy one, spiked.
To 5: Stayed near the red line with my routechoice. Was a bit afraid to miss the control after the long way along the slope from the attackpoint, but the clearing near the control was good to see from far away. Split is OK.
To 6: Couldn't miss that one. Very good split there.
To 7: Tried to push hard on the long climb. Managed that and didn't loose to much time there. Then was slow running around the slope again. Additionally came a bit too far up but saw the control from there. 20s lost.
To 8: A long run along the slope, so I was loosing time there due too my slow speed. Was too far up again (contouring didn't seem to be my best ability) and had to climb done. Realized it immediately, but the climb was stony and slow. Maybe 1 min. lost.
To 9: Was really tired by then, spiked the control, but in a slow way.
To 10: Had some problems there in the beginning as the vegetation was strange, in my opinion the thicket started right after the 9. control, so I went too far right. Then run into some stick that hit me right under my eye. After the first shock I realized that my eye seemed to be not injured, but my contact lense was lost or broken. So had to run the rest with one good eye and one not useful eye. Strange. The best way to do it was to close one eye completely. Thank god this happened short before the finish and not in the middle of the course. Would have been difficult to continue for long this way. Lost about 1 min. with that maybe.
All in all a good run orienteering wise. But it's frustrating that I was 34 min. slower than the leader with a good race - how many years training will I need to even get near this?

LL 4,0km 110hm
First day of the Hungaria Cupa. Too many unnecesary mistakes and bad running in the terrain.
Map:
http://bilder.m-ha.de/doma/index.php?user=Meike
Details:
To 1: Spiked, but moved slow along the slope.
To 2: Came too high on the slope, saw a control in a lime burning place, somehow thought I had to go up even further (now, 5 days later, I cannot see why I thought that), went up further and then a long way back down. 4min. lost
To 3: Easy one, spiked that, but too slow on the uphill path.
To 4: Spiked, but slow running again.
To 5: Walked practically the whole way and was orienteering slow and insecure near the control. Maybe 1min. ?
To 6: spiked, easy to find. Hard climb uphill, but didn't loose as much time on the climb as I'd have thought.
To 7: Another silly one. All went well until I hit the path. 'Then I should have taken the secure route instead of just running ahead without knowing where exactly I crossed the path. Went back to the path, along it to a good attackpoint and the got pulled 90 degree in the wrong direction by an open hanging control. Unecesary. Together 3:30 lost.
To 8-13: Spiked with OK or good splits.
All in all at least 8:30 mistakes and a lot more time lost due too just walking on the stony parts...
