Classic model map at Prince William Forest -- walked or jogged between selected points (I visited most but not all) to see what the mapping/terrain were like. It helped a lot (but not entirely on Saturday) to get me into the event this weekend.

Sprint model map at PWF, near the sprint venue. While it showed a slightly different part of the forest than the classic model, we heard later than the person designing the sprint model had no conversation with the actual sprint course setter and the model wasn't really indicative of what we'd find in the sprint. No matter, it showed a few mapping items that I hadn't seen on the classic model and therefore was still a useful exercise. Mostly walked it because I didn't want to expend all my energy before the sprint. :-)

Green sprint course US championship. In all the excitement at the start I didn't go far enough north to hit the trail before diving down into the woods, in the reentrant area E-SE of the control, but once I was in the woods I saw the bag to my left. Did better on the rest of the controls, with a minor bobble to 8 based on not exactly following my plan but recovering easily. I don't think that not taking the trail hurt me any because I hit another trail after 80 m in the woods anyway.
5th out of 8 F50+, 3rd US behind Shelley Pennington (OLOU) and Lex B. (UNO). Hmmm -- Natalia and Tracey and Sandy didn't run this event; perhaps saving their energy/focus for the weekend?
