Orienteering race 50:20 [3] *** 3.63 km (13:52 / km) +60m 12:48 / km
spiked:11/12c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

"Green" course at Schenectady Museum Nature Preserve (EMPO local meet). It's hard to set anything harder than an orange here due to the park's small size and extensive trail network. Nice course by Dylan T.

Only control I missed was a slight overrun [plus I was expecting a spur not a reentrant (could be because I copied it wrong on my punch card, or it could be that I just didn't check the clue)]. I didn't look down the hill until it didn't show up where I expected.

Having meet directed here a few years ago I had been pretty much all over the map and I'd look at the upcoming control and say to myself, "yup, know where that is and how to get there." Still, a fun day (and only 8 minutes behind Tori -- okay, so that's almost 20% slower...; but better than last week's event).

FR/ST give ~4.8 km covered distance.

Exerc. Class 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

"Power Sculpt" class at the Y. Can't do the step class, so thought I'd try this. Mostly okay for my knees (I didn't do the pliƩs as deeply as some), but some of the strength work was a little tough on my right shoulder. I dialed back the intensity and tried to keep up with the repetitions. Feels okay so far.

Didn't want to do much with the legs as I have orienteering events scheduled for the next two days. :-)

Walking (track) 14:09 [2] 1.0 mi (14:09 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

On the indoor track at the Y, after class (though it's a nice day outside). Had to keep switching lanes between the "walking" lane and the "jogging" lane as there were quite a few other walkers there today, not going as fast. Splits at the thirds (15 laps = 1 mi, so I took laps every fifth lap) are: 4:46, 4:41, 4:42.

Followed this with a few cross-over side steps (3/4s of the way around the track), a.k.a. "the weave" step.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #1

Exercise class in Chatham. Didn't want to "push" the knees so skipped using a step today for that segment (though I still did the movements).

After class, getting back into the car, the door closed on my left leg, and my knee happened to be at just the wrong spot -- ouch! Iced it when I got home. No visible bruises, but it's a bit sore.

Walking hills 1:13:45 [3] * 6.0 km (12:18 / km)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #4-Y

Walk/hike at Greenport Conservation Area (after basic reading tutor training again -- yeay, I "graduated").

About 40 minutes into this, on an uphill climb, I started dripping sweat and feeling strange. Not sure what brought that on (one possibility is an internal power surge), but it was odd while it lasted.

Nice trails, another beautiful fall day, and good views of the Hudson River from various viewpoints.

Garmin Training Center: 5.86 km ; SportTracks: 6.24 km. Actual is probably in between.

Orienteering race 53:23 [4] ** 3.8 km (14:03 / km)
spiked:15/16c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Green course at Colonie Town Park; 1:7500 map with 3m contours.

Did okay on a map I've been on a number of times before. I dawdled here and there trying to make the route safer for followers as there was hidden ruined fence several places along my route. Also double-checked a control I thought was in the wrong little reentrant (though others who did the course disagreed).

Serves me right for trying to field check while I raced. :-)

Took the riverbank route partway from 9-10.

Note

Vindication! The Forerunner track shows the reentrant control WAS in the wrong reentrant. It also shows the map has a few problems (most of which we knew about). We didn't have Forerunners last time we set courses here...
