Event: Billygoat

Orienteering race (Billygoat!) 3:22:12 [4] *** 10.7 km (18:54 / km) +305m 16:32 / km
spiked:19/22c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

Nottingcook Forest in Bow, NH, set by Jim Arsenault. Thickish woods in places so the course was set on the short side (to my advantage). I was particularly happy with the reduced climb relative to other Billygoats I've done or tried to do.

Control 5 was a forked leg; I took the left fork. Never did find number 6, so that was my skip. I'll have to scan my map and see if I can overlap my FR track to see where I went.

Saw Sharon and Lyn for the first few controls, plus some others who were starting out slowly. Near Francis H. from 10-12, then we went separate ways to 13 but he was coming in to punch as I left it. He got ahead again on the way to 15 but then we were together for 16 and 17. He finished ahead of me. Saw 3 of the Lyons family (Patty, Walt, and Zach) often throughout the race, too, but they tended to take different routes between points.

Fun course, fun day! Nice to get another shirt (my 6th); this one's a dark green polo-style shirt with chest logo.

Note

FR measured 14.6 km traveled. (And I was trying to stay close to the beelines, too!).

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 40:00 [3] 3.63 mi (11:01 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

At the Y (6371 strides, for what that's worth). Good effort; saw 118 HR at one point.

The whole time I was there, there was a fellow on nearby elliptical at a higher angle (crossramp?), and a bulked up young guy (not my type at all) running really fast on a treadmill. They looked like they were working pretty hard.

On the way home I took a look off into the woods at the side of the road and felt a rush of joy, as in, "I'll be back there soon" (though next stop is in NH at the Billygoat). I love orienteering!

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. Used step with one riser; no major knee issues (just tiny tweaks which are bearable) -- I think the adductor exercises are having an effect. Hope I don't have any issues this Sunday!

Later I spent almost two hours on the riding mower cutting the grass (first cut of the year, so it was extra long and I had to go slow -- usually takes 1-1/2 hours), so I got an extra upper body workout. :-)

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

At the Y. No problem with most of the moves, but lots of tightness (still) in the right hip area.

Running (treadmill) 39:30 [3] 3.5 mi (11:17 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

After pilates. Not too many people at the Y. New signs with advice about hand-washing to deter "swine flu," terminology the CDC doesn't really want people to use (but newspapers will continue using because it's easier than H1N1). :-)

Walking (treadmill) 10:00 [1] 0.54 mi (18:31 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 # 3

Cool down.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

In Chatham. I'm surprised my legs/hips weren't any tighter than usual after the weekend's work, but I guess one day was enough recovery. :-) I'll try running/"climbing" at the Y tomorrow.

Note

The crepes at Jardin Nelson were as good as I remembered (from our first visit last year). And this time we shared a dessert crepe too.

Note

Glen measured straight line distance on the Rogaine controls as 18 km and I counted about 660 m of climb, more or less (hard to count as they were 2.5 m contours and in some places very close together! ... and no index contours to make the task easier...). So I've added that information to the Rogaine log.
