Easy trail run (1st quarter mile to and from the park is paved) at Kennedy Park in Lenox, MA, from the Church on the Hill. Forgot to take my map (enlarged version of a portion of the DNRC map that Pat D made); but enough trail maps were posted around the park to refer to that I knew where I was going.
First quarter mile to the Park gate is uphill (and a ways beyond, too). It took a whole minute less to run it back to the car than it did to run up it to start (notwithstanding that I was also concerned about thunder I was hearing at the time) -- whee!
I climbed to the overlook / picnic area near where
the hotel used to be. There's a new memorial at the overlook with a granite wall (dedicated June 1 of this year), in memory of a Dr. who enjoyed visiting the park and apparently this spot. Then down (and up, and down and up some more).
Checked out the pond that
oeo2oo* mentioned had a beaver-felled tree. I saw the tree, and then I saw the beaver, lazily swimming around! Certainly not very busy.
No significant ups but I did have to walk a few hills. First heard thunder as I approached the lookout pavilion (not much of a view this time of year; trees are growing up too much around it), then hustled back a different way than I had come. Kennedy Park is good for that -- lots of trails. And such interesting terrain! Too bad everyone lives so far away from it (except oeo2oo...).
*Had a mental flash earlier this year re: Fred's byline -- it sure sounds to me like what the witch's guards sing when Dorothy's friends are trying to get into the castle in Wizard of Oz. :-)
