orienteering (Rocky Paddock) 25:47 [3] 2.8 km (9:13 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Oroc spikes

Decided to gatecrash junior training on my way to Narrinyeri, and stood around a while talking to various parents - including Kym Barnett, and the Clems who have come over from Port Lincoln with their kids - so took a while to get out on course but was surprised to find that the junior boys hadn't started yet either, so having them come past me one by one made me run a bit harder than I otherwise would have.

Control picking exercise titled "observation" which basically encouraged people to look around them to be sure they were in the right place, something which worked really well for finding rocks in the paddock but not so well at Narrinyeri this afternoon when I was surrounded by head high broom bush...

Took longer to drive from Mt Crawford to Murray Bridge than I had thought it would, but my plan was to test-run the nominal W45 course for SA long champs, which was *only* 5.2 km, but after this afternoon's experience (which included 20 minutes trying and failing to find a boulder - I hate to admit defeat, but was vindicated by the fact that it's definitely not on the previous version of the map) I may need to shorten it, or else go through less of the green stuff which is regrowth from the 2005 fire. I now know why Simon's 2009 NOL courses did 3 laps of the nicest part!

Still, it's always lovely out there so I didn't hurry but checked out quite a few other rock features and the unmapped grave (I presume it's for somebody's pet), so was out for a couple of hours altogether and getting hungry/thirsty by the end, so headed home in time to take the dog for the walk I'd promised him this morning...

Some more singletrack exploring, up one side of Randells and down the other, admiring the sunset and the city lights. Spotted the first golden wattle blossoms of the season :)

Slightly anxious given that G has agreed to drive to Melbourne tonight for Collins. Hopefully he'll be allowed back into SA tomorrow night - and more importantly, into NT in 4 weeks' time!

Checking out some more singletracks in Sleeps Hill/Pasadena. Pleased to have been credited with the half a minute/10 points from Saturday by the admin team (all late teams were retrospectively adjusted) who'd agreed that the start clock was indeed out of synch with GPS time from which the finish units are set - something we'll need to keep an eye on for the ARC.
