BOC 2013... Another eventful champs. Been struggling the latter part of the week with this infection. Felt awful yesterday but had good sleep. Woke with glands still up in groin and thought it might not be my day. We left Ely at 10.50 but got caught in the M25 nonsense and ended up rat-running from J17 to J11. I lost it a couple of times and spent ridiculous amounts of emotional energy. Got to arena after 2pm and I was clearly not best prepared. Warmed up but knew it was going to be a struggle today. It was. Wobbled to #1 losing about 40 secs but then settled. Physically I was shot. Thighs were never able to propel me and I felt sluggish and weary. The long leg killed me off. I should have gone easy on the road route which I could have run steadily; instead I went direct and suffered. Piece de resistance was actually sitting on the bench at the top of Pitch Hill and admiring the view for a few, wonderful tranquil seconds. Just plodded on though missed #17 by a little distance but a few seconds there didn't matter much. Technically was fine apart those short wobbles at 1 and 17 and not choosing the easier, flatter route to 10. However, the biggest problem was the physical side and today you needed to be top dollar to be in with a shout. Gutted and down about it. All can do is recover and look to the next goal.
