MCRRC: 5k XC Gaithersburg MD. Another opportunity to be beaten by Jon Torrance.

run race (xc) 20:48 [4] 5.0 km (4:10 / km)
rhr:63 weight:171lbs shoes: other

MCRRC: Gaithersburg 5k XC. An accident on the beltway caused some delay in getting to the race. Race started while I was heading to registration. Started 61 seconds late. Official time was 21:49 and 50th place. Lost 13 spots, 4 in my age group which will hurt my chances in the xc race series. Another 90 degree humid day and I did not have a great race, fading in the 2nd half. Probably went out a bit fast to get back the time lost by starting late. Splits: 6:21, 6:51, ? Jon Torrance was there and finished 6th in just over 18 minutes.
After killing my o-shoes last weekend, I wore an old pair of integrators with studs. Ok during the race but blisters on both feet on the toes where the shoes are to tight.
No warmup before the race and no cool down afterward either because I wanted to get to Rockville for an 8:00 performance of Yeoman of the Guard.

run (road) 38:36 [1] 4.0 mi (9:39 / mi)
rhr:65 weight:172lbs shoes: Saucony Grid Shadow

11:30pm. Somewhat cooler than the 90+ it was during the day. Must be getting close to 30 miles a week again because I am tired and have various aches and pains. Even with rest yesterday, still ran slow today. Think I feel better running late at night after square dancing than after working late. Lee Graham 50 route. 10:00, 9:33, 9:37, 9:27

orienteering race (beer chase) 57:56 [4] *** 6.23 km (9:18 / km) +210m 7:57 / km
spiked:18/23c slept:9.0 weight:172lbs shoes: Integrator04-studs

QOC Beer chase. McKeldin, Patapsco SP MD. Noon, high 80s. Died in the heat and some orienteering problems in the 2nd loop but managed to hold on for 5th. Right hamstring was tight before starting (and still is now), bashed my toe sometime in the first loop (it has a big purple bruise) and lost most of the sole of the left shoe after the 5th control. Did not actually lose the sole, it is still attached and was flapping and folding under for the rest of the race.
I had known the soles were loose after the Goat and had had them reglued at a shoe repair shop. While I was not impressed with the repair I wore them at West Point without problems. Thought they would be ok today but the heat and stream crossing was to much.
Splits and comments are posted.

other (disc golf) 10:00 [1]
shoes: other

18 holes of disc golf after the Beer Chase and picnic. Actually 19 holes since Nadim and I did one hole twice while equipment was being packed. Over 2 hours of walking in the hot sun. A lot of climb as well as I can not keep my disc out of the gullies. Tight battle with Nadim until the end when down by a stroke I was forced to attempt a long putt for birdie instead of laying up. Bogeyed the hole and lost by 3 or 4. Ted and Jon were well ahead. Dave Onkst just behind.
