Other (capture the flag) 1:30:00 [1]
shoes: Newbalance 767

A friend of mine organised a game of capture the flag in Rockliffe park. Not a lot of people showed up (there were only 5 of us) but it was a lot of anyway. We played to games, one over a huge area, and one over a tiny area. I used the Rockliffe park map for the first game but ditched it for the second one because the area was so small.

A variation on capture the flag could be an awesome activity for getting youngsters involved in orienteering. What kid doesn't love capture the flag? I'm thinking you'd divide a map in two, and the kids into two teams. Then put say six flags on each half of the map (show the flags as well as the dividing line and a jail for each team on the map). The goal is then to collect all of the flags from the other side and bring them back to your half of the map. If someone from the other team touches you while you're in their zone they have to walk you to jail and you can't get out until someone touches you. The number of flags and size of area would of course have to depend on the number of kids.

The major variation is that the flags are shown on the map but this would encourage a faster game and one that involves map reading. It also simply gets kids running at speed through the woods when they're chasing each other.

Cycling (Carleton - home) 29:00 [1] 12.1 km (2:24 / km)
shoes: GIANT - Defy

took a long route home to avoid a traffic light. Unfortunately I spent half of the ride caught in traffic because hogsback and Riverside don't have bike lanes or shoulders and it was the middle of rush hour.

Running warm up/down (warm up and stretch) 15:00 [1]
shoes: Newbalance 767

ran for almost 15 min and stretched my ankles out repeatedly and very severly. I haven't been stretching them properly in almost a week and it turns out that's a very bad plan. They got very painful very quickly during my warm up jog.

Running hills (5*2*mooney's bay) 20:00 [3]
shoes: Newbalance 767

ran 5 loops of the following:

* up the hill at the steepest part
* down the hill right beside the steep part
* back up the steep part
* down and around the far side of the hill by the road

times were roughly
0:21, 0:45, 0:21, 3:00
so a total of almost 4:30 per loop

Running warm up/down (Cool down) 25:00 [1]
shoes: Newbalance 767

ran back to Carleton the long way via Vincent Massey and over the Bronson bridge.

Cycling (home-Carleton) 19:30 [2] 10.6 km (1:50 / km)
shoes: GIANT - Defy

It's amazing how fast you can move when you take a couple of days rest and have a good night's sleep.

Cycling (Carleton - home) 25:45 [2] 10.2 km (2:31 / km)
shoes: GIANT - Defy

Quite the ride coming home today in the rain and super strong blustery winds. It definitely feels like a storm is coming on.
