Biked to MEC and back to pick up my phone from my grandparents who were shopping there... then i tried on a few pairs of minimalist shoes and fivefinger shoes. The Fivefingers felt a bit weird but I really liked the feel of one of the pairs of minimalist Merrell shoes. I also ran into a good friend there ... it ended up being a much longer trip than anticipated.

First race of the season!

It was awesome to see so many strong orienteers running the long advanced course today. Unfortunately my lack of training this past winter was very evident. While my race was pretty clean except for controls two and three I feel like I should have been able to move much faster.

I started off a minute or two after Robbie with clean first control and decent pace. Then I fumbled control 2 due to the generalizations in the map (though I should have had no problems anyway...) and again at 3 when I came in too far south. Colin caught me at the control and we ran in parallel to control 6. He made a mistake to 7 and I ran the rest of the race on my own with very few problems.

Time to start getting in shape again...
