Orienteering (Rocky paddock) 50:00 [3]

Putting out tapes for 30-odd controls. Spent just over 2hours doing this, but only about 50 minutes running/jogging between control sites. Takes longer than you think to faff around with tapes/texta/etc. Also had to stop and explain what I was doing to 6 seperate groups of people. Not sure how many tapes will still be there next week as lots of kids took an interest in them!

After locating one particularly scratchy control site, I high-tailed it to the fenceline to get away from the vegetation and nearly stepped on a rotting echidna - revolting! I was imagining spikes covered in rotten stuff coming up through my Cascadias into my feet... A minute or so later I nearly stepped on a baby brown. My foot landed about 30cm from it and I jumped away as fast as I could. Luckily, it had the same idea in the opposite direction. I also saw heaps of roos, deer and was swooped my maggies. Apart from the hostile and dead wildlife/flora, it was quite a lot of fun and a great afternoon. :)

Run (Commute) 1:03:00 [3]

Run from Coro Valley up the creek, up the hill to Belair, down Randells, detour around the roadworks, through Mitcham to the shops, then down Rugby Street all the way to the parklands and then dodge the pedestriamites through town to work. The first 20 minutes up hill hurt at that time in the morning and the clay in Randells was nice and slippery!

Cycling (Commute) 42:00 [3]

To work in the cloud.
Tired from getting up at sparrow's fart (5:45am) to walk the dog the last two mornings. He's getting old now and only has 3 good legs so it takes me over half an hour to wander to the other side of Blackwood forest and back with him in the dark (maybe just 2km). Creek through the forest was still up this morning.
5 PM

Cycling (Commute) 57:00 [3]

Ride home into a gentle head wind. Braved pushing into traffic to get around the roundabout. Lots more traffic today, but I figure it's because I left at around 5pm instead of 6pm like yesterday. So nice to be able to leave work when I please without worrying if it will be too dark to ride safely!
6 PM

Strength Training (Upper and core) 20:00 [2]

This was tough - using Dad's 4kg weights instead of my usual 2.5kg.

Cycling (Commute) 55:00 [3]

Up and over the hill to the place I'm house-sitting for a month. Just a couple of clicks further than my place, so I essentially go the same way home. Going to have to start getting used to the Blackwood roundabout on a bike - but at least with school holidays it's not too bad this week!

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [3]

Lovely ride to work with the school holiday traffic (so nice with fewer cars on the road).
4 PM

Run (Commute) 15:00 [3]

To Tyson's office.
6 PM

Run (Hawthorndene) 35:00 [3]

Run with the T-man through Blackwood Forest and back past the fire station in Hawthorndene. So nice to go for a run after work and not need a head-torch!

Quick jog around Beechworth with Sus and Lauren before the looong drive back to Adelaide. Beautiful cool morning.

Orienteering (Aus Middle Distance W21E) 1:02:00 [3] *****
spiked:12/19c

30 minutes to the first control - disaster! Didn't do too badly after that, but called it quits at the spectator control as I had a late start and after 1 hour on course at that point, I didn't think I could finish the final loops before course closure.

Basically had no idea how to navigate in the amazingly complex map detail and couldn't match map to ground in any meaningful way until it was too late to matter.

Once again, Amber had a fantastic run! Yay Rambo! Sus is amazing to watch on the GPS trac trac - a great example of how to carefully navigate in complex terrain. Congrats to Sus as new Aus Middle Distance champ!
