Orienteering warm up/down 20:00 [3] 1.0 km (20:00 / km)

W/u ~ initial jog in the car park and then up to the far away field, then faster on the hills a couple of times. Did drills, stretched and went into the box.

Orienteering race 22:57 [5] 3.5 km (6:33 / km) +100m 5:44 / km
shoes: olway tigers

British relays W18, 3rd leg, Wolsley Park.
Team first by 10mins but non comp.

So went out in the lead which was good as noramally I totally crack under pressure like that, told myself to keep calm even though I knew we were non comp I wanted to win.
Number one was pretty tricky as it was in the middle of a really tiny gulley?! I saw the fence but was still slightly too far left and saw the control before the feature. 2-7 were all basically orange standard so could run hard, felt strong but kept it in control as I knew if I kept it clean I wouldn't get caught. 8 was a bit trickier and did let myself get put off by the contorl on the spur but quickly went into the re-entrant but lost a bit as the control was behind the tree and I stood still. Should have went to the path on 9, poor route, made it tougher and had to read the map rather than planning ahead. Bit too fast on 10 as went to the top of the spur rather than hill. Rest fine, felt tired on the run in though but dead happy to win even if we were non comp.

British Champs ~ Abrahams valley
W18E 4th. Too too messy, let the running take over, thought it was a lot worse though.

Well, I didn't start off well as as usual I navigated too the circle then just ran! Ended up on a knoll further left and had to cross a yucky wet bit to the control. Obviously then I decided to go faster and ran into the open area just running towards where I thought the control was, I was wrong, stopped and looked at my map and it was easy! Tried to slow down a bit, had a plan for the next control, found the veg boundary, then to my surprise I was at the cross on the map when I thought I was lower, however it didn't matter as I set my compass to take me to the depression, no control. Turned right and ran up the boundary and saw nothing, a control reading 132 so not mine, then came back to it again, and it actually read 152, mine! Turns out though the knoll on the map right on my line was actually some sort of hide thing which wasn't the black cross so I was directly online when I reset my compass. 4 and 5 ok:). 6 was just like a leg dad and I had gone over so knew how to execute it but went into wrong derpression, after more time loss I ran hard again only to stop too early twice on route! 8 ok, 9 almost went the wrong way but checked compass at last moment which saved me, nice uphill after to take it out on! I had planned ahead to 10, had a good route, then exited the wrong way so had to change, never quite got back to knowing exactly where I was which was bad and ended up doing a really long track run back to the control, annoyed. 11 was fine:) and it shocked me to find out later I was leading at this point:P. 12 I was on the spur but too high, 13 again I was on the spur and as the description was just spur I was unsure where to look and it didn't help I was in green, so despite this I'd only dropped to 2nd. It was a leg vaugely similar next to one dad and I had looked at, we had decided that avoiding the climb was a good idea, the only problem was with the actual leg was it was a lot further down the hill. I didn't think about that and the fact the climb had to be done anyway and as I thought I was having a disaster I didn't consider other options as had nothing to lose. I was WRONG. The route sucked for the control, it would have worked it the control was on the plateau and the map hadn't changed, this combinded with the fact I didn't read the map at the end and was in the wrong area ment I lost about 4mins, dropped to 4th. 15 was okish, 16 I thought the control was in the big re-entrant, too sloppy. 17 and 18 ok.

So in a way I'm pleased with 4th as my running obviously kept me up in contention when my navigation was poor. Really really annoyed with how I did towards the end more though. Need to remember and think, I knew the long leg was importanted to get right. Lots to work on:).
