Event: Yetar Spring

Orienteering 52:03 [4] *** 6.3 km (8:16 / km) +205m 7:06 / km
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

H3 at Yetar Springs with Craig tailing (and leading to #5)

Got most of the way to #1 thinking "Don't think about Craig, don't think about Craig". Probably would have been better to stay a bit higher on the way in, but my line turned out okay.

#2 was clean enough, although I got dragged a little right near the end by a rocky knoll.

#3 was okay, although I could have made more use of the clearing below the control.

#4 I stopped on the cliff adjoining the control (on a rock surface) and couldn't see it. Craig gave me some very big hints, like "It's just there, if only you would open your bloody eyes!"

#5 was Craig's lead, up and through the green. Clean as a whistle. Bloody show off!

#6 We had a chat before the leg and decidedon a particular route choice (wide left) which I think I executed quite well. Craig chickened out and took a shorter, straighter, faster route.

#7 Coming over the spur before the control I was a little unsure of exactly where I was on it, so played safe and went a bit further right than necessary to pick up a creek line. Clean into the control, but not exactly straight.

#8 Happy enough with going straight, saw the control from 30m or so.

#9 Really enjoyed just blasting down the hill.

#10 Another long, mainly downhill, leg. End up a little more right than intended in the circle but easily corrected.

#11 Blast away down hill.

#12 A bit messy coming out of the control meaning that my line wasn't great, but no real issues.

#13 Nice downhill leg to finish.

Main points from Craig's perspective (other than "That was super (slow)") was to look further ahead and know what to be looking for at a distance. I do this occasionally, but spend too much time looking at my immediate surroundings.

Definitely worth having a shadow (and a leader) - thanks Craig.

Running intervals 43:20 [3] 8.41 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline 9

5 x 1k intervals.

Done a bit conservatively, given my lung capacity over the past couple of weeks. Happy with not producing too much lung butter along the way. Not too much speed to be found, but I should be use to that by now!

Happy to do a more intense session after a break.
