Running 1:03:57 [3] 7.2 mi (8:53 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Braes + Hermann-Rice long+. Suckage. Nasty humid morning. Legs ached much of the run. But felt okay for maybe 5 miles or so, then I just struggled with energy/focus & started pity walking some. Better than nothing, I suppose.

Running 48:32 [3] 5.8 mi (8:22 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice short. Took a zero yesterday in an effort to keep the calf heading in the right direction. Probably a good choice, as everything felt pretty good this morning. A little initial tightness in the left calf that faded away after a couple of miles. The right calf felt 100%. Solid run.

Running 48:42 [3] 5.8 mi (8:24 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice short. Said it before, but, man, what a difference 10 degrees makes. Not like there wasn't plenty of sweat, but overheating wasn't an issue either. Legs felt rested and the calf/shin was . . . meh. Tight after the run, but not a deal-breaker during.

Tuesday Sep 24, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Lower legs feeling much better, but still not 100%.

Monday Sep 23, 2013 #

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Both calves are incredibly sore and tight. Becoming sort of a chronic issue.

Running 2:23:28 [3] 13.0 mi (11:02 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295-v2

HSP. Dear 8 lbs 6 oz newborn infant Jesus, don't even know a word yet, thank you for the 58 degree morning. The cool weather basically made up for anything else that was sub-par on this one. That first cool morning is always the sweetest...

Running 38:39 [3] 4.2 mi (9:12 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann. Mid-afternoon test of the shin/calf. Took it super easy - pretty lethargic for the first 1.5 or so, but then felt pretty good. Nice breeze & mild temps.

Running 20:52 [3] 2.5 mi (8:21 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann short. Two minutes in it started raining pretty hard. With some lightning. And my right shin was alarmingly tender. So I made the executive decision to shut it down.

Running 55:02 [3] 6.5 mi (8:28 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice long. Had I been awakened from a coma, Rip Van Winkle-like, and asked to guess the date only by how it felt outside at 5:45 this morning, I would have said late July. Maybe early August. Definitely not late September. Definitely not. "Horrid" is too mild a word to describe the 86 degree heat index (which didn't factor in the complete lack of any air movement). Fortunately, the legs felt okay. Otherwise, the misery would have been complete.

Note
(injured)

Suffering a terrible injury to the part of my brain that produces motivation. Think I sprained it.

Tuesday Sep 17, 2013 #

Running 1:02:56 [3] 7.5 mi (8:23 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Braes long + Hermann-Rice long. This one started out pretty blah in the breeze-less jungle humidity, but once by the Rice loop the legs came around a bit. Can't take much more of this endless summer.

Monday Sep 16, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Day two of the vacation. Kinda liking it.

Sunday Sep 15, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Giving everything a rest. Left calf, right hip flexor, low back, mind. Taking tomorrow off as well.

Saturday Sep 14, 2013 #

Running 57:29 [3] 6.5 mi (8:51 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice long. It wasn't a zero day. That's the only positive thing I can say about this one.

Friday Sep 13, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Decided to rest today. Give the little aches and niggles a rest. Plus, just mentally not into dealing with the heat right now.

Thursday Sep 12, 2013 #

Running 49:28 [3] 5.8 mi (8:32 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice short. Weird run. Couldn't get the legs to turn over early on, then they started to feel oddly disconnected from the rest of my body. Then I got a little dizzy - not pass out dizzy - more like vertigo. Then, after maybe 3 miles, everything started to feel okay (save for some assorted aches and tight spots). The girls have had the crud this week, so maybe that's it. Or the crummy night's sleep. Or just an off day.

Wednesday Sep 11, 2013 #

Running 54:02 [3] 6.5 mi (8:19 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice long. A day off and a bit of breeze made a difference this morning, as things slipped into a nice groove - not especially fast, but super solid. Bypassed the intermediate water stop around Rice for the first time all summer!

Tuesday Sep 10, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned zero day.

Monday Sep 9, 2013 #

Running 59:12 [3] 7.1 mi (8:20 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice long + Braes. Sort of a weird run. Once the legs warmed up, I had a couple of really dialed in miles. Then, just as quickly, the energy waned and the last few miles were sort of sucky. Not terrible, but just not great.

Sunday Sep 8, 2013 #

Running 49:23 [3] 5.8 mi (8:31 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice short. Big-time mid-morning heat and humidity. Kept things slow and easy. Not a terrible Sunday run.

Saturday Sep 7, 2013 #

Running 1:38:54 [3] 11.0 mi (8:59 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Braes long + Hermann-Rice long (x2 Rice) + Braes. Barely enough motivation to run and certainly none to drive anywhere to do it. Funny thing is, this one turned out to be pretty good. Definitely kept a "Saturday" pace, and that meant I never felt even slightly taxed.

Friday Sep 6, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Going to rest a few aches, but mostly I need a day off mentally.

Thursday Sep 5, 2013 #

Running 53:29 [3] 6.5 mi (8:14 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice long. As nasty-hot a morning as there has been all summer. Ick. That said, the run itself was pretty solid. Legs came around after a couple of miles & I managed the heat just fine.

Wednesday Sep 4, 2013 #

Running 1:03:54 [3] 7.5 mi (8:31 / mi)
weight:167lbs shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2 Blue

Hermann-Rice long + Braes long. Nasty hot morning + flat legs = very conservative pace. Not a bad run, but enough of the fucking heat. It isn't making me stronger and I really don't need any more "character building" runs.

Tuesday Sep 3, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Zero day to rest tired legs.

Monday Sep 2, 2013 #

Running 3:39:14 [3] 19.2 mi (11:25 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295-v2

Huntsville SP w/ TREX. Very hot and sticky Labor Day run. Stuck with Mariela for the first loop, and benefited from her 8/2s. What she claimed to be a 10-mile loop was actually just short of 9, but the first one went by easily. Heat got to me a bit during the middle of the second loop, but a breeze along the lake perked me up a bit and hitting my igloo (with ice and Coke) revived me enough to add another 1.5. Given the nasty conditions, I'm pretty pleased with this one.
