Running 36:47 [3] 4.5 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann long plus. Back wasn't perfect, but not nearly the issue it was Monday. The engine felt like it was yellow-lining a bit (heat maybe), but the legs felt good.

Tuesday May 29, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned zero day.

Monday May 28, 2012 #

Running 47:26 [3] 5.5 mi (8:37 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara 2

Hermann-Rice short. Second miserable run in a row. Woke up with a sore back, something that's usually relieved by running. Not this morning. It tightened up to the point where I was forced to take a couple of brief walk breaks. Which was just as well, because acclimating to the heat and humidity has been a struggle. Going to take a zero day tomorrow.

Sunday May 27, 2012 #

Running 53:57 [3] 6.2 mi (8:42 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann-Rice long. Mid-day heat-fest. Holy crap, it was hot. Pulled back the pace a little and stopped for water at every fountain. Wiped out by the end. Whew. Have a ways to go to get acclimated.

Saturday May 26, 2012 #

Running 1:40:00 [3] 9.0 mi (11:07 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Grit

Saturday trails with TREX. Very warm and muggy morning - the warmest morning of the year. So far. Hit the Triangle first at a pace that was maybe a little too quick - came back to bite me at the very end of the run where the heat zapped me. Still, felt pretty solid overall.

Friday May 25, 2012 #

Running 36:36 [3] 4.3 mi (8:31 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann whatever. Woke up way early feeling less than stellar. Made it out the door and for the first mile felt good. But then it quickly became clear that I didn't have the planned 6.2 in me, so I cut it short. Definitely some sort of illness brewing. Hopefully it won't turn into anything significant.

Thursday May 24, 2012 #

Running 36:32 [3] 4.0 mi (9:08 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara 2

Hermann long. Late afternoon run. Indian food for lunch - not a good idea (notwithstanding how tasty it was). Took half a dozen short walk breaks as a defense against puking. I covered a few miles - that's about all that can be said.

Wednesday May 23, 2012 #

Running 33:00 [3] 4.0 mi (8:15 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann long. Dragged my ass out of bed ultra-early to get this one done. Once I got moving, it was fine. Another brick in the wall.

Tuesday May 22, 2012 #

Walking 31:00 [3] 2.1 mi (14:46 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara 2

Shake-out walk along the Braes Bayou trail.

Monday May 21, 2012 #

Running 31:04 [3] 3.7 mi (8:24 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara 2

Hermann plus. Kept it short and relaxed this morning. Been a while since I've run seven straight days and the legs felt a little lethargic. Day off tomorrow.

Sunday May 20, 2012 #

Running 45:42 [3] 5.5 mi (8:19 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann-Rice short. Warm, mid-morning run. Despite the heat and humidity (which isn't going anywhere), was able to settle into a solid, but by no means quick, pace. Legs are feeling very good. Need to enjoy every day that they do.

Saturday May 19, 2012 #

Running 1:51:00 [3] 11.0 mi (10:05 / mi) +1100ft 9:13 / mi
shoes: Kinvara 2

Saturday trails at Huntsville. Chris and I started with Mariela, Kelly, and Larry & ran the rolling out and back along the Elkins Lake utility cut. We then parted ways and completed not quite 7 really enjoyable miles on some of my favorite sections of singletrack. Solid pace with essentially no walking. Excellent morning.

Friday May 18, 2012 #

Running 34:22 [3] 4.0 mi (8:36 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann long. The odd mid-day run. Everything felt fine - not a ton of pep in the step, but part of it may have been the full-sun 86 degree conditions. Long summer ahead.

Thursday May 17, 2012 #

Running 23:34 [3] 2.8 mi (8:25 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann stuff. Nearly bailed on this one as I really had limited time this morning. Instead, decided to head out short and throw in a bunch of pick ups for a quick, loose speed-play session, with short slow cool-downs. Glad I did. Fun to change things up and make the legs turn over a bit.

Wednesday May 16, 2012 #

Running 33:45 [3] 4.0 mi (8:26 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara 2

Hermann long. Another relaxed, short run. Legs felt good.

Tuesday May 15, 2012 #

Running 45:04 [3] 5.5 mi (8:12 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann-Rice short. Solid, conservative pace. No significant issues.

Sunday May 13, 2012 #

Running 34:15 [3] 4.0 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann long. Very solid little run. Everything felt remarkably good. Can't ask for anything more.

Saturday May 12, 2012 #

Walking 33:15 [3] 2.6 mi (12:47 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann short with Rebecca. An afternoon jaunt with mostly walking, a couple decent stretches of running (and a lot of whining). Everything feels okay. Time to work on some consistency over the rest of the month.

Saturday May 5, 2012 #

Running 8:45:00 [3] 33.5 mi (15:40 / mi) +5800ft 13:28 / mi
shoes: Brooks Pure Grit

Miwok. A beast of a new course just broke me. That's all there is to it. Was not able to put in the training necessary to negotiate a bunch of big, bad-ass climbs and descents. There are, however, worse places in the world to fail.

Thursday May 3, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned rest day.

Wednesday May 2, 2012 #

Running 36:33 [3] 4.0 mi (9:08 / mi)
shoes: Kinvara 2

Hermann long loop. Threw in a handful of 1-2 min walk intervals to temper the effort. Very relaxed. All systems go. Time for a couple of days of 100% chill.

Tuesday May 1, 2012 #

Running 34:14 [3] 4.1 mi (8:21 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Connect

Hermann long loop plus a bit. Muggy morning. Everything felt fine. Typical blah legs after the day off and reduced mileage lately. Will take it even slower tomorrow and then off until race day.
