Running 32:49 [3] 4.0 mi (8:12 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2

Braes/Hermann short. The effort seemed greater than the sluggish time would suggest. The fact that this morning was the first with true summer jungle heat may have had something to do with it. That said, the 4-mile run is one of Chris's truly fine ideas - over before the suffering can get too great. May comes in with a fairly paltry 107 miles, but 20 runs for the month is more consistency than I expected.

Running 33:54 [3] 4.4 mi (7:42 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2

Hermann loop. Focused on pushing the pace a little, which wasn't easy given that I basically have one gear right now. If I was a bike, I'd be a fixie.

Wednesday May 29, 2013 #

Running 40:06 [3] 5.0 mi (8:01 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2

Hermann + Braes. Took a mile or so before the legs wanted to start turning over, but otherwise a decent run. The first without a shirt - behold my pasty whiteness motherf-ckers!

Monday May 27, 2013 #

Running 36:32 [3] 4.4 mi (8:18 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2

Hermann loop. Out considerably earlier this morning (8:00), which made a big difference in the temperatures. Still, I was somewhat cooked after the last couple of days and really didn't have much in the tank. Zero day tomorrow.

Sunday May 26, 2013 #

Running 49:24 [3] 6.0 mi (8:14 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2

Hermann-Rice short (11:00 a.m.). Another heat-acclimating run. Very conservatively paced with a focus on sustainability (i.e., not bonking). This is clearly the worst time of the year - summer-ish heat, but no summer legs yet.

Saturday May 25, 2013 #

Running 59:52 [3] 7.3 mi (8:12 / mi)
shoes: Brooks PureFlow 2

Braes / Hermann-Rice long. Focused on keeping it easy and controlled to deal with the heat. Stopped at all the water fountains and extended the walks in and out a bit. Managed okay. The new Brooks PureFlow treated the feet nice. A little more room in the forefoot than the Connects, but a little less locked in around the heel. Will play with the lacing a bit. Very smooth, cushy ride for such a light shoe. Feels like a road version of the Pure Grit, which isn't a bad thing at all.

Running 40:50 [3] 5.0 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann + Braes (9:00 a.m.). Ugh - the heat acclimation is always tough. This was no exception.

Thursday May 23, 2013 #

Running 39:49 [3] 4.0 mi (9:57 / mi)
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 295-v2

Mid-afternoon (read: hot as f-ck) trails with Chris. Out Green and then back along Memorial, as the ankle isn't quite 100% and I didn't want to risk it. Plus, it was sucktasticly hot back in the Ho (or what's left of it).

Tuesday May 21, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Planned zero day. Good timing because my right Achilles is super tight - overcompensation issue maybe.

Monday May 20, 2013 #

Running 34:40 [3] 4.4 mi (7:53 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann loop. Ankle is progressing fine. If I can manage not to tweak it (like I did ever so slightly toward the end of this run), it shouldn't be much of an issue going forward. Very warm this morning - we're back to standing under the fan on high and using essentially no warm water in the shower. Joy.

Sunday May 19, 2013 #

Running 32:41 [3] 4.0 mi (8:10 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue

Hermann short. Ankle is almost there. A bit of aching, but nothing major. Kept it short because I could feel myself compensating a little and favoring the right leg. Want to avoid any overcompensation issues.

Walking 1:10:34 [3] 4.25 mi (16:36 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Allen Parkway / Buffalo Bayou Park. Mid-afternoon walk. Feeling the need to get out after a heavy lunch. Warm but breezy. I like walking...

Saturday May 18, 2013 #

Walking 1:06:30 [3] 4.2 mi (15:50 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Grit

Late-morning walk all around Hermann. Definitely warm, but breezy and no smoke (like yesterday) made for good walking conditions. Mixed in a number of "test" bursts of running, up to a minute or so, and the ankle feels pretty good. Back to running tomorrow.

Friday May 17, 2013 #

Note
(injured)

Ran maybe 10 yards before realizing the ankle isn't quite ready for running. Will try to get out for a walk later, as walking is fine & I want to keep the range of motion good.

Walking 33:14 [3] 2.25 mi (14:46 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Grit

Late-afternoon walk in humid, warm weather. Tested the ankle with a few short bursts of running. Really close. Aiming for Sunday.

Thursday May 16, 2013 #

Note
(injured)

Another ankle rest day. Probably give a short run a try tomorrow.

Wednesday May 15, 2013 #

Note
(injured)

Rest day for the ankle.

Tuesday May 14, 2013 #

Running 57:26 [3] 7.4 mi (7:46 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue

Braes/Hermann-Rice long. Well, it was almost an excellent run. Felt really balanced and smooth until 1/2 mile to go, when I folded the left ankle after the foot landed on the edge of a concrete "sidewalk" part of the trail. Fucking concrete. It hurts. Think I'll be off for a few days...

Monday May 13, 2013 #

Running 51:14 [3] 6.6 mi (7:46 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann-Rice short w/ Braes. Cool-ish but humid morning made for pretty good conditions (especially for mid-May). Generally a pretty solid run all around. Don't have much focus right now, but the whole "run what feels right" thing seems to be working for me.

Sunday May 12, 2013 #

Walking 49:54 [3] 3.0 mi (16:38 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Grit

Braes-Hermann afternoon stroll. Didn't much feel like running today - nice, relaxed walk instead...

Saturday May 11, 2013 #

Running 1:02:44 [3] 8.0 mi (7:50 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann-Rice long with Braes out and back. Things were a bit creaky at the start, but it all fell into place soon enough with a very smooth, controlled middle 5 miles.

Friday May 10, 2013 #

Running 35:36 [3] 4.4 mi (8:05 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue

Hermann loop. Damp morning, but not totally unpleasant. Legs felt a bit lethargic early (curse of the margarita) but came around at the end. Toyed with the idea of stretching it out a little longer, but I didn't want to tempt fate with the foot (which felt fine).

Thursday May 9, 2013 #

Note
(rest day)

Taking a day off to let my left foot chill out. It was hurting after yesterday's run.

Wednesday May 8, 2013 #

Running 28:28 [3] 3.3 mi (8:38 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann short loop. Rather than blow off running (cuz I didn't feel much like running), I decided to keep it super short and do some really loosey-goosey fartlek-style stuff. Pick ups of various lengths (30 secs to maybe 2 minutes) at 75-85% effort with some slow jogging and a bit of walking in between. Much better than taking a zero day - in fact, kind of fun.

Tuesday May 7, 2013 #

Running 45:59 [3] 6.0 mi (7:40 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann-Rice short. Really nice morning for early May. Felt pretty good overall.

Sunday May 5, 2013 #

Running 54:30 [3] 5.25 mi (10:23 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Pure Grit

Sunday trails. Planned to do a Green out and back, but when I got to the dip nearest Memorial toward the start of the trail, work crews had it closed - there was literally no getting on. So, I turned back and just futzed around on various trails with no plan in mind, which was actually quite nice. Stellar weather for anytime, much less early May.

Saturday May 4, 2013 #

Running 1:17:31 [3] 9.2 mi (8:26 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue

Saturday Hermann-Rice-Etc. Leisurely all the way. From the start time to the pace to the route planning. No preconceived route this morning - just an idea to run as long as it felt good. Gorgeous, cool weather didn't hurt and this one felt really good pretty much the entire way. A nice goodbye to not-summer in H-town.

Friday May 3, 2013 #

Running 35:27 [3] 4.4 mi (8:03 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann. Amazingly-cool weather for May. Talking record cool. Made for a very pleasant jaunt. Thought about extending it a little longer, but the right hamstring and left calf were a bit tweakish, so I kept it short.

Wednesday May 1, 2013 #

Running 34:36 [3] 4.4 mi (7:52 / mi)
shoes: Pure Connect - Electric Blue 2

Hermann loop. A run to see where everything is at post-Guads. Felt pretty solid overall - none the worse for wear.
