Saturday trails with TREX. Not a quality run. The first half hour (done alone) was fairly steady, and the next 45 minutes was okay (although I never felt that great), but the last part of the run was pretty horrible. Drained from the heat to the point of nausea. Nasty hot morning with hardly any breeze. Very difficult to accomplish much more than logging miles on a day like this. Still, good company kept it from being a total wash.

Hermann-Rice short. Positives: everything above the waist was good, heat didn't start to play a factor until the very end, and another brick in the foundation was placed. Negatives: everything below the waist hurt & I'm tired. Shin & calf were talking to me the second I got out of bed (although they loosened up okay on the run), and I have some "hurty foot" around the middle of the ball of the right foot. For these reasons, the streak ends tomorrow, as I will forego my walk in favor of a needed day off.

Hermann loop (with slight detour to avoid 'trail work'). The time this morning is pretty much irrelevant - today was a speed play day. After 5 or so minutes of warm up, I did 6 x 3:00 intervals of the following: 30 sec slow running (probably about 9:00/mile pace), 30 secs medium-hard, 30 secs hard (85% maybe), 30 secs med-hard, 30 secs slow, 30 secs walk. Took a longer walk after the 3rd set and cooled down with a slow jog for the last 5-6 minutes. Fun change of pace.

Hermann-Rice short. This one was definitely in doubt yesterday, as the legs felt oddly trashed all day. After warming up though, they were fine. Not spry, not dead - somewhere in the middle - good enough for me. Focused on keeping it conservative and steady & the heat didn't start wearing me down until a bit later in the run. Nasty-hot morning - 110% humidity & zero breeze = abundant perspiration.

Hermann long loop. "Monday legs" made this slow-ish 4-miler feel much harder than it should have been. Motivation issues this morning didn't help.

Sunday afternoon trails. Wicked-hot late-afternoon run. Crestwood and back. Hit the gate at 25:05, so the pace was conservative but pretty steady throughout. Had I gone another mile, or even half-mile, the heat would have kicked my ass.
