Orienteering race (Easter M21AS Day 2) 57:34 [5] 7.8 km (7:23 / km) +193m 6:34 / km

After only just getting to the start on time I started fine and by cp4 had caught up with Sten who started 2mins ahead of me. We then travelled together until he sped up the hill to 8 winning that split (together we made about 30 sec on the leaders up this hill). Then my best leg - the long one from 8 to 9 (gaining 1:05 over Juffy here). Went high to stay on the orange and by the time I hit the granite I could see Sten and someone else a couple of hundred meters behind. Kept working carefully, caught Jen and then bulls eyed it through the sparse woodland. At this point I had the lead on the race over Juffy by 1:25. Had a drink and off to 10 - but saw on my card that 10 is the one with the water, so back to 9 to double check. Read the number in error and kept going down the hill. Then realised not good, ran back up and by then Sten and Jen arrived at 9 - lost 2:07 right there (from Sten's split to 9). Then the wheels gradually fell off as Sten, Jen and I stumbled through what was slowly becoming a horror show. Me going too low to 11, corrected by seeing Sten above. Then I overshot a knolly turn to 12 by mistaking a granite patch (8th fastest time to 12, 2:20 off the best split). Then worked hard to open a gap to 14 but misery when I arrived as Jen, Sten and I ran laps of the area looking for the control (2 mins off the best split). The rest was back to normal, but arrived 5mins off the leaders. This calls for a miracle tomorrow since my cumulative time is 11:03 from Juffy in first, 7-8mins from Tyson in 2nd, about 3:30 from Sten in 3rd.
