10 AM

Orienteering race 1:05:38 [4] *** 5.3 km (12:23 / km)
shoes: Integrators pair 4

Middle at Cuivre River. Blue course. Easier navigation in the day, and the vegetation seemed easier too (mostly because it was possible to see the way round it). After yesterday I wanted to avoid the rough open, although this was not possible for one control. Wasn't too bad though.
2 PM

Orienteering race (Corn Maze) 17:54 [4] ***
shoes: Mizuno Wave Ascend pair 2

Corn maze orienteering. My first attempt at this new and popular form of our sport. Fun, although a bit dog-leggy. I thought a second control in the bottom left portion of the map could have made things more interesting.

Orienteering race (Sprint) 22:33 [4] *** 2.2 km (10:15 / km)
shoes: Integrators pair 4

Sprint at Camp Sherwood, Cuivre River State Park, MO. Fairly open woods with some greenbrier, making the going a bit slow (at least it felt that way to someone who lives in Colorado). Didn't push myself too hard, as there's a lot of racing to do this weekend.
8 PM

Orienteering race (Night) 1:54:36 [4] **** 7.0 km (16:22 / km) +804ft 13:56 / km
shoes: Integrators pair 4

US Night Orienteering Championships at Cuivre River State Park, Missouri. Red course. Generally a pretty good run, although the presence of Speedy denied me the chance to retain the M40 night championship.
2-3 I took an overly cautious route using the trail some way to the east of the direct line.
No 5 I thought the big re-entrant to the south of the control was the smaller one to the north, so went south instead of north. I realized my mistake when I ended downhill ended up being south.
No 6 I was one ditch over to the east.
No 9 I ended up on the wrong side of the ridge to the nw of the control I soon realized my mistake.
Other than that a pretty clean run, although I did have a nasty greenbrier encounter just west of the road on 11-12, and encountered some epic unmapped deadfall on 12-13. Plus I was thankful at times for reflective controls.

Cycling 26:19 [2] 4.52 mi (5:49 / mi)

Commute + a bit extra. Cold and icy on the way in so couldn't go very fast. Very bad traffic on the way home, with the bike lane covered in leaves that obscured the residual snow and ice underneath.

Note

Snowing today so didn't ride my bike to work. Actually, it looks like the roads would be OK for riding, but I didn't know that before I left home.
7 PM

Running 56:06 [4] 5.5 mi (10:12 / mi)
shoes: Asics (pair 5)

Run in the snow (!) in City Park. A bit tough going in places, especially on the north side of the golf course at the end.
