WMNF to Greenleaf Hut w/ Udo Rauter. Started at Canon Mt tram pkng lot, fairly steeply up Greenleaf Tr to Hut, back via Old Bridle Path to Lafayette Pl & then 3 miles bk to car on Pemi Tr. Had expected some sun but low ceiling, virtually no views, some snow falling. Had intended to get to summit of Mt Lafayette but it was clear that Greenleaf Hut was as far as practical. A good hike but close to winter conditions which I had not really contemplated bk in the flatlands of southern NH. Trails were quite rocky in places, covered with an inch of snow but fortunately almost no hidden ice. Neither of us fell even once, being careful. Saw no one but did see footprints, even beyond Greenleaf Hut into low visibility. Only sign of life was the call of a pileated woodpecker.
