Walking 20:00 [1] 0.8 mi (25:01 / mi)

AM DP with Beth as well, east end of W-H, visited the "shooting gallery", cleaned up, 2 signs posted. Motivation to avoid hunters.

Road/trail 1:00:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (40:00 @2) 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Up Allen, left on W-H, hadn't been there since spring! Saw Ken Demain, chatted about changes. Got to other end of W-H & did not care to see hardtop so made it home mostly on trails.

The road through the woods - a road many times taken...

One of my favorite views at the Bog

Trail/woods running 40:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) 2.9 mi (13:48 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Started out as a "run" on trail but prospect of entering the woods for free range appealed & made the time go by - leaves, contours, bog etc. A lot of places to go nearby on the map that I've seen very little of in the past two-three years. Another TGIF day and tired from yesterday's run home (& they're 2-3 minutes off expectation).

Friday "afternoon delight"...

Not a fool's gold (from a year ago)

Road running 59:52 [4] 6.9 mi (8:41 / mi) +130m 8:12 / mi
shoes: New Balance 1011

NHH home, start around 4:50, warm, singlet perfect. Better energy than Tuesday but not much of a better time. Splits just kept on turning up lackluster in spite that I felt somewhat energetic. Last critical, looking for 10:10 & it was 10:31. I'm thinking energy ebbs as the year ebbs, a SAD version....

The day...worth repeating in part...

"O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our tress, one far away.
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!..."

too nice to have wasted inside....

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.4 mi (37:29 / mi)

AM DP, 3 dog days. Warm, gray, rainy.

Tea & biscuits for three, in the Sandbox foyer

some force at work for such cooperation....

Trail/woods running 39:35 intensity: (5:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (4:35 @4) 4.2 mi (9:25 / mi)

At SPS XC, warm, gray, humid. 2 loops, a mix of walking, jogging & a few splits around 4 effort. Legs feel "stiff" - likely from subclinical ham stuff, now more right than left for a surprise. Gorgeous colors, likely because it was on the dark side, accentuating them. Golds, yellows, oranges, browns, some green of fern & several spots of intensely bright red maple - and mist on the stream as it was so warm. Picked up about 30 assorted leaves & threw them into the air over G unit table as they were having Team - they were not displeased.

Trail/woods running 12:00 [1] 0.3 mi (39:59 / mi)

Came home to 3 needy dogs & one bout of diarrhea, fortunately on tile floor.

shoes: NB 993

Home from work. A warm day, high 60's. Got hot enough to have to remove light-weight longsleeve shirt at 18' and altogether at 32'. First time I failed to break 60' in 2 years.... Needs more work! Wow, temp says 70F at the moment - 6p.

Orienteering race 54:19 intensity: (40:00 @3) + (14:19 @4) 4.7 km (11:33 / km) +125m 10:12 / km

Sunday at Baldwin Hill. Found a map which told me I'd been there in '01. Gray day but no rain. B+ run - 1& 2 direct, esp #2 when I came up on the platform & much to my surprise it was not 20m away. Went pretty much direct to 3 but it was somewhat hidden by downed tree - also went to a nearby bldr first, doubting it but nevertheless - lost 30". 5 was a bit L - should not have been but went right & saw it - maybe 45". 6 went st & right by prominent knoll but then not careful enough - was looking at 2 bldrs to the nw maybe 80m distant - went bk to knoll & then straight - certainly an unnecessary error! Maybe 1.75'. Rest ok, lucked out on 9 - got close, saw a colored O suit but it was someone not at the control. Went L to a height & that was knoll I needed. A run I can live with. PG under 50', Jeff 52+. Wish M50's, 55s, 60s had been on same green.

Interesting day at the 2 schools with many, many youngsters playing football on an unbelievably green turf - partly midget league because that's what I noted most, miniature footballers. Nice work by CSU/NEOC & use of middle school cafe after was most pleasant as the chill continued- even tho I ran off. Like the shirts sold..fabric & design.

Shared medical duty (cleaning bloody scratches for most part - one mildly sprained ankle as well) with Jeff Schapiro. Nice Saturday eve here with Jeremy Colgan who showed me a thing or two about GPS utility on his iPad. Visit with Colleen & Jim in Westminster after.

Walking 21:00 [1] 0.9 mi (23:20 / mi)

AM DP, made it all way down to beaver slough which is well-filled. Brown & bare (and drizzly) along the PL.

"Where are the songs of spring?

Ay, where are they?

Think not of them, thou hast thy music too...."
