Weightexercise workout 45:00 [1]

Monday Sep 3, 2018 #

Note

Boat day, not exactly rest but nothing conventional in the way of training.
IS 95 was already slow go with Labor Day traffic heading home at 1015 near Portsmouth. Returned 4/9/202 to avoid it at the end of the day. T close to 90F.

Met a hunter at Nottingcook this morn while I was "walking" Mocha. He had a pistol on his hip and a rifle in his back pack, was dressed in fatigues, wore a full beard, was maybe in his early 30s, from Manchester. We were certainly of a different stripe but had a pleasant near 15' conversation. He perked up with the concept of orienteering. He'd done triangulation from the air for designated ground points when in the civil air service. He knew Nottingcook in his way as I knew it in mine. He kept track of all the hunters' stands as a territorial consideration. He was out to shoot any coyotes he found. He spoke of 12 hrs in a deer stand in the fall awaiting that "coveted moment", very cold at first.

Kayaking 30:00 [1]

With Janelle on Kimball Pond, early.

Cardio 26:30 [2]

From bottom to top at Peter's place at Merrymeeting. More enjoyable than stairs inside at a place like the Y.

Kayaking 30:00 [2]

@ Merrymeeting, decent upper body effort.

Orienteering 1:38:08 [1] 2.97 mi (33:02 / mi) +80m 30:29 / mi

Bear Brook - drove to entrance to 4H camp, walked thru it to the end of Bear Hill Pond & then into the woods, the very SW part of the map. Some very nice woods, some really quite open. Don't get that far from Hayes very often so it felt refreshing. Near the end, met one fellow in on a path carrying a large ice chest & fishing rod who wanted to know where BHP was, still close to 500m. His load looked pretty awkward.

The 4 H camp is showing signs of life: road & some cabin improvements, some rental cabins available.

Weightexercise workout 30:00 [1]

Note

Right upper hamstring is sore. It didn't like yesterday morning's "no different from any other time" at the BHS track. MSK issues are often like that. Just sitting in a chair brings some complaint. So light going for awhile.

Cardio 21:30 [3] 1.5 mi (14:20 / mi) +94m 12:00 / mi

BHS, start 6:55, cool enough, dewey. "Heat index" to exceed 100F today per radio. Approached with "take it easy, be even" which I was for the first 6 laps, all around 3:30. But on the 6th, got right ham "awareness" & stopped after. Have had it from time to time but it has been awhile. I was the proverbial basket case in 2011 before the O-Ringen & Scottish 6-day, attending PT for a month before going to Europe. Am glad to see I wasn't so stupid as to try to complete the w/o today. First time, however, I've quit on it. Seems it was the first day of school and kids were flooding in starting around 7.

Forgot to turn Strava off. Sat on an ice pack at home then to Portland to pick up sails.
