Jukola 2011 Virolahti
LS-37 II / 5th leg
I knew I was in bad shape so I concentrated only in smooth and solid navigating. In the past few competitions I haven't done that much of mistakes so I was confident my plan might even work.
▷-1 It started as well as it really good.
1-2 I realised I'm running as fast as I can with this shape and still I was on the map the whole time. Unusual for me. Could've used the path through the green though..
2-4 Easy peasy spot on. I lead maybe 5 guys to the wrong forking on #3. That felt nice.
4-5 Some girl tried to get past me, and in fact did...
5-6 Fortunately that girl went too much right and I overtook her again.
6-7 First notable mistake. I got really close (most likely to the other side of a spruce) but others lured me more north. Saw the big stone NW of me and to the cp I went.
8-11 Pretty much spot on.
11-12 Went straight but at the green swamp I felt like it wasn't the best idea. But then saw the clearing which had baybe altogether three trees cut down and knew this was the better choice. Small mistake in the cp circle
12-13 After half point I had no idea where I was. There was some new paths (or should I say roads) which confused me a lot. Somehow I still ended up to the cp...
13-14 The biggest mistake. I was still on the map 100m before the cp (two big stones on the top of the hill) but for some reason wanted to follow some random guy who was going more left.
14-15 Spot on.
15-16 Another beculiar mistake. I lead a train of maybe 5-6 guys and I swear I was on the right side of the highest point of the hill. GPS says the other way.
16-17 My mind was already on the finish line mode. The only time I went to the wrong forking the whole race...
I'm still pretty satisfied though I lost quite a bit to the best of our short leg guys.
The best results for our 1st and 2nd team in 18 years. So all in all magnificent result.
