Park Series (Blue Gum Hills - final) 51:15 [4] 5.2 km (9:51 / km)

BGH is an excellent Park venue. Weather was rainy and pretty soggy underfoot. Went early to do Rego duties and hoped to see new family to line them up for Sunday's first bush event, but they didn't come. No warm up to speak of. Was placed in C division for the finals.
S-1 - knew it was on bridge but to get to it went past and back.
1-2 under playground but above maze. Longish mown grass but very soft.
2-3, 3-4 OK
4-5 - GAH over 1km straight line leg - so aweful. Took right hand route - GP said it was shorter and faster. Noted attack points for 11,8,10 and 6 on the way, but by then the elephants had arrived. Now that bit is over can settle down.
5-6,6-7 OK, but now the fun set in with the only real bit of complex twisty turny bits and the added swampy bits to add to the mix. Was fairly hesitant here and lost time.
7-8 along track then drop down to lower track
8-9 further NW then track S to 9 but it seemed hard to get to 10 (boggy/swampy) so back tracked and slid a bit down to control.
10-11,11-12, 12-13.13-14 fine then into maze
15-16 just did the LRLR approach had a couple of stop -starts in maze and 1 dead end when i lost concentration then out
16-17 thought control was on edge of cemetery but was actually external to park
17-18 like this part of park - probably don't go there very often
18-19 decided that while I like down hill runs I don't choose to climb a flight of stairs to do it so went along clearing
19-20 - real route choice and I think I did very poorly here. Chose the clearest attackpoint (actually for the next control) but didn't factor in that I would be very slow down the steep incline and possibly faster up because of the slipperiness.Thomas thought to go the same way, Bridget went the flat route and picked up quite some time.
20-21, 21-22, 22-F all OK but apparently some spectator sport watching other people go to the far control in the gully and not to the w/c which was our control. A couple of DNFs and a couple of long times for this leg.

Splits tell me I lost time on #1,#3,#5,#8,#10,#20 mostly 30-40 seconds each. Beat a couple in Div B and about 3 in Div C which is about what I thought.
Helped pack up as getting dark. Not attacked by mossies but everyone else was. Home to rockman who'd chopped tea up. So ends Park Series for another year. I get my Wednesdays back now so change in gym routine and training. Also I lose my Sundays now.

Note

Various walkings around Drummoyne down to shops with pram and down to big boys' shops looking at shiny stainless steel fitting$$$$$$ with rockman. While the area is surrounded by water I was still surprised to see this shop on Victoria Rd. Nice return walk via the back streets. I know why junior likes living here.

Note

Saw sooo many people out on the Iron Cove path as we drove to Canterbury for parkrun. More than at a real parkrun. No wonder it can't work here - but how convenient that would be!!!

Park Run (Cooks River) 36:18 [4] 5.0 km (7:16 / km)
shoes: bright pink

Not enough warm up. Predictably nice area for parkrun following the river bank/cycleway on a glorious morning. It promised to be flat and while there were small undulations it was pretty much flat. 2 loops which I initially thought may suit me, but not quite.
S-1 9:10
1-S 8:46
S-2 9:09
2-F 9:10.
Nice chat afterwards with local runner who I finished with. Her in-laws live at Fingal so I recommended Fingal to her.
Hope to return to this parkrun - nice area and it means we are in Sydney with Astrid.
