Orienteering race 41:36 6.6 km (6:18 / km) +243m5:19 / km ahr:165 max:172
JK Relay, Hambleden, M120+ 1st leg.
Ran, but probably shouldn't have done. Cold getting worse, and I felt really tired on the first long climb. Managed to just jog round, though not concentrating properly and I missed #4 by about a minute, then got distracted by a different control at #7. Glad I wasn't in the top SYO M120 team.
Not a great JK for me. Need to get rid of this cough/cold so I can perform better at British Sprint/Middle.

Still coughing, so went out steady, and just tried to be clean. Felt pretty weak too, but just about managed to keep my head straight and not make any misses towards the end, so actually a reasonable run considering.

My cold is slowing my running, but the navigation was going ok. Then somehow I binned 4 minutes at #16, a pit in a fairly vague area, that seemed to have several other controls around it (some of which I went to). Should have done about 61-62, but that was still some way off the pace.

With a sore throat and cough I knew I wouldn't be running fast enough, so I tried to have a smooth technical run. Thought I'd achieved that, but looking at the map and splits after the race there were obviously a few legs I could have done a bit better.
#4 - didn't spot the passageway through to the control, so ran round to the north, and also did a loop round the building to find the flag (20 secs)
#10 - went right, but left is perhaps slightly shorter (5 secs)
#13 - went right of the building, but didn't spot the small hedge gap that made left a better option (15 secs)
#15 - went left, but perhaps righ is better (5 secs)
#16 - went right (ok) but then ran out onto the grass which was marshy, rather than the road (5 secs)
Positioning of the Emit stakes cost me a few seconds as well, including one control that I re-punched a few secs later as I hadn't been able to get the brikke properly in.
So actually a "perfect" run for me would have been about 50-60 secs faster, which was about the time James L won in.
