Off to Gay City with Julia. Phil had family obligations so he was heading off to GC as I was getting home.It's not far for him, just under an hour.

Bare ground except for a little bit of ice on a couple of trails, but not enough to cause any problem. And winter vegetation, no ferns! So generally easy running. Did the Green course from last September's event, set by Jim and Rich.

Excellent run. Priority was on the physical side -- try to run more than I have been doing, even if still in bits and pieces, just try to make them a little longer bits and pieces, and of course no falls or stumbles (the latter can on occasion do damage to an elderly orienteer). Success on all accounts. Very satisfying.

Navigation, well, I think it was fine. No controls out there. I think I was at all the right spots, but even if I was wrong, it doesn't really matter. The point of the outing was working on movement.

After we were both done, we spent a few minutes with me testing Julia on her precision terrain reading skills. There's room for improvement. :-)

Fine outing! Reminds me of the days Alex and Ali were in the valley. Thought such times were gone for good, but it seems not.
