Note
So I was thinking I should join the chase for 2,000 controls, though in my case that is modified as follows -- the 2,000 is a lifetime goal, with a first-year goal of 800, a second-year goal of 600, a third-year goal of 400, and a fourth-year goal of 200. At that point, if not sooner, I am probably done for.
Starting point for the first year is the same as Ali -- I suggested the goal to her mid-afternoon on August 9. She was in Norway, where it was late evening by then. So her chase started on August 10. So shall mine.
So far I've got --
14 -- UNO, Pawtuckaway (night)
30 -- WCOC, Sessions Woods (course setter, went to all 2 or 3 times)
30 -- WCOC, Paugusset
31 -- HVO, Highlander
14 -- NEOC, Wrenthem
12 -- EMPO, US Champs, day 1
13 -- EMPO, US Champs, day 2
22 -- CMOUSA, US Classic Champs (course setter, went to all 3 times)
04 -- CMOUSA, US Sprint Champs (course setter, went to all 3 times)
07 -- CSU, Long Pond, qualifying
14 -- CSU, Long Pond, final
10 -- NEOC, Baldwin Hill
22 -- SSDTAAR, UMass
So the total so far is 213, just over a quarter done, so I am right on pace with Ali.... :-)
Hmm, feels like I've been doing a lot of orienteering. Maybe have to rethink the goals for both this year and lifetime, as they may be too ambitious.
On the other hand, the number is a good bit higher than I would have guessed it would be a couple months ago.
So the question is whether I will manage to get out for any training in addition to the smattering of meets I go to. We shall see. First test will be to see if I take advantage of the opportunity to run at Five Ponds as I may be in Litchfield for a while. My mom had a fall Wednesday night, tore something in one eye, had surgery for that, is to be released tomorrow, so I'm going to NYC to extract her from the hospital and take her back to Litchfield. And then try to deal with setting up what additional care she needs. That may take some doing....
