Got home after a nice ride down to and back from a HVO meet at James Baird SP. Unpacked my stuff, everything where I expected except I couldn't find my Garmin. Back to the car, looked everywhere, no Garmin. Looked through my dirty clothes again. Still no Garmin. Imagining it still lying in the parking lot.
Went up to report my dismay to Gail? Are you still wearing it, she asked.
It is so nice to have a smart wife. She is having to adjust to having a stupider husband as he gets older. But I was so happy to have found the gizmo that all I could say was, It's not so bad to be really easy to please.
Still smiling about that (what's the point of been distressed about one's vanishing mind?). And still smiling about a fine day.
Never been to James Baird before. Really nice. Open woods, interesting topography, not particularly rocky, excellent map. And another chance to actually socialize. Even to extent of when Tony Muffati passed me midway through the course it seemed totally appropriate to ask he he'd been managing during the pandemic. And when he passed me a few minutes later, to ask how Karen had been managing. You didn't ask about the kids, he said afterwards. You didn't pass me a third time. :-)
Green course, 4.9 km beeline. Got around OK, a little over 11 minutes/km. One botch, misinterpreted the contours, had me totally confused for a couple of minutes, lucky to find the control. Still really weak on the uphills, but the running is getting better when it is flat or down. Mainly just happy to be doing it.

Loop to the south around Mount Warner, done just before the rain came. Nice outing, though also one where the wind shifts (south when I started, northwest when I finished) were not in my favor. I wasn't in a hurry, so it mostly didn't matter, just missed the always nice feeling of the wind at my back.
