Cycle 35:00 [1]

Orienteering race 1:02:00 [5] ** 8.0 km (7:45 / km)

Straight from exam to Donadea. Not hugely technical or anything but a nice run around the forest.

Orienteering race 1:19:34 [5] ** 15.11 km (5:16 / km)

Interesting O format in Newbridge Demesne. Got a map (not blank) with control circles on it; no codes, no descriptions. At each control was a bearing, a distance, a code and a description for the next control. We had to find which control it was on the map. This meant a lot more time was spent standing at each control, so control flow was fairly non-existent. Some of them were on pretty distinct features (eg there was only one control in a re-entrant), so they were easier. I kept instinctively trying to plan ahead but obviously couldn't. I guess that's a good thing. Only mistake was when the bearing at the control read 67 instead of 87. Apparently magnetic north has changed since they last used the map and they only noticed after planning or something to that effect, so I ran to the wrong one. Then I ran to a different wrong one. I didn't know whether to run back or just visit a load of random controls in the right radius. I did the latter and found the right one quick enough. It's not like it was the IOC or anything so it didn't bother me... Good fun, felt good. Course distance in straight lines: 11km
