pilates (?) 40:00 [1]

Tried a pilates class at LA Fitness in Orange. Convenient close to work. Nice facilities, pool & sauna! Class wasn't good though. From belly to back, to belly again, to all fours, to back, to standing.. class was an hour but it felt like we spent ~20min switching positions.

I'm having a sad day :(
Beautiful pine hill terrain, lake, deer and turkeys helped some.

trail run 43:36 [2] 7.57 km (5:46 / km) +82m 5:28 / km

with Mike & Neil, working up an appetite.. for Barbara's delicious feast!

Then a headlamp neighborhood "tipspromenad" (question walk) & challenges where we found out the correct answers =) Fun times!
Neil was the winner with 5/10 correct answers, 2 challenge wins & beating Jon in the broom tiebreaker! Although Anne-Louise showed her competetiveness with 4 challenge wins!

A very nice Thanksgiving with a European touch!

Note

The spot in my left side lower back has been hurting today, while sitting down at work (still on a ball). Got to do some exercises and stretching!

zumba 1:00:00 [3]

Big class, not enough fresh air. Worked really hard and sweated a lot. Maybe body was just tired from yesterday and it made it feel harder.

run 10:00 [1]

warm up

orienteering 2:04:42 [4] *** 13.5 km (9:14 / km) +515m 7:45 / km
spiked:17/27c

Fun course, no long legs. Sunny cold day.

Kept up with the big crowd for the first 4 controls, we were running pretty fast. Tough but fun - relay-feeling! Some confusion and overshooting of #1.

Was a bit passed and below #6. Could still see a few people when leaving #8. Veered too far left going in for #9 from the trail, realized and corrected.
After checking out a boulder that wasn't the control feature, Peter Grollman & Boris were with me at #10. In company with Peter for most of the time from there on.
Saw Neil at #12 and again at #13. Heading for #14 Neil was sligthly infront of me and as we passed through some prickles, he got stuck! So I passed him! :) But I veered off too much right, so he got to the control first anyway.
Going uphill to #18 my legs were really burning. Was a bit lost in the green looking for #20.
Went left to #21, just as we ran up that little trail (skyline) I remember that was what I did last year and it's slow going down that dangerous steep cliffy part. Neil said: "I don't want to do this" and turned around. Cutting through the white leaving #20 would have been quicker.

Had trouble finding #23. Stopped a bit early for #24. Spent quite a while looking for #25, until Neil came and led us to it.
Tired, tried to push it and wanted to beat Neil but didn't have anything extra to give as we were heading for the finish. 4s.

Had to blow my nose like every 10m, but breathing was ok and I think I had a pretty good pace. Fun race!
Walked a lot of the uphills while I was tired, but running with guys I realize I also loose time downhill. Maybe should start doing hill repeats, both up and down!
Wore my elastic ankle thingys and they worked well, no twists and no blisters.

with Mike up River Rd. Beautiful as the sun was setting, the hill on the other side of the river was all yellow and the river was reflecting the pink sky. Still some remains of the cold, nose was very rinny.

trail run (night) 33:44 [1] 5.41 km (6:14 / km) +80m 5:48 / km

Yay! We had a sub and she had a really fun, fast class :) So refreshing with new songs and choreography.

run 5:00 [1]

warm up

orienteering 1:03:57 [3] *** 6.5 km (9:50 / km) +250m 8:15 / km
spiked:11/20c

Beautiful warm & sunny day! Wasn't in the mood to race, plan was to go slow and clean. Didn't manage (with the clean part). I suffered out there. Tired legs, felt a bit nauseous and was scared to fall while I was slipping on the dry leaves with loose & sharp rocks underneath. Wore my elastic ankle thingys, no twists.
For the orienteering: Boo! Did a lot of small mistakes and some bigger.
1 Spent a long time looking close to or in the circle
2 Bad route choice, went to the right below the cliffs
4 Took the wrong trail and was far left
15 Hesitated on the trails and started looking for the control too early

Found that having a clean race/season has the literal meaning to some people and not clean orienteering wise :)

trail run 42:31 [2] 7.0 km (6:04 / km) +117m 5:36 / km

at West Rock with Becky. Just before sunset. Warm out! Got cheered on by my neighbors, who were hiking, on our way up to the top :) Slippery on the dry leaves, managed to roll my left ankle a couple of times. Garmin had trouble finding satellites (added an estimated distance).
Back home Anne-Louise & Rob were baking crisp bread, yummy!

zumba 1:00:00 [3]

Fun music and moves! Great way to start off the weekend!

Note

Now it's dark when I get out of work already. I don't like running in the dark by myself. And if I should go running in the mornings I would need to get up earlier than early. Most mornings this week it's been beautiful out though. What to do..

pilates 45:00 [2]

Nice livingroom session to start of the day.

other (leaf raking) 30:00 [1]

After unsuccessfully convincing people to come and help out, even bribed with cinnamonbun-baking, we had to take care of the leaves covering our lawn. I think I was out there for a total of 1,5 hrs and it's pretty hard work. We're not done, and there is still lots of leaves left on some trees.

trail run 1:31:20 [2] 18.09 km (5:03 / km) +198m 4:47 / km

Wanted to get a long run in. West rock. Nice day, chilly in the wind. Rolled my left ankle after only 3min :( but was ok to keep going. Had stomach cramp (håll) second half of the run, weird usually only get it while racing.
Many people out walking, some with dogs, a group of polite mtb:ers. And one very nice mtb:er who gave me water on the way back (Mike).

Before class Becky said: "I think I'm more nervous now than before any of the a-meets this fall" but she clearly had nothing to worry about.. she did pretty damn good, this being the first time she tried an aerobics style exercise class! :)

strength (core) 1:00:00 [2]

What they replaced the Tuesday pilates class with. I heard that it was really slow and yoga-like so I didn't bother going. But I talked to the gym owner last night, he told me to give it a try while the teacher changed it after listening to feedback and requests.

And yes this was a pretty tough work out. Not slow. Still not pilates but definately worth going to.

Also nice to see the ladies :) One of them is 84 years old (!)

Note

PT visit:

Hip bones pretty well aligned. It's still painful sitting for example in the car (same spot, left side lower back).
Karen took a look at my butt from behind as I was sitting. She checked levels of bones, left side compared to right side. Left side was slightly lower, she put a folded washcloth under my left butt cheek and then it was aligned. But after some experimenting we discovered it might feel better if I put the washcloth under my right butt cheek. She showed me with a spine model how the nerve on the left side, probably causing that pain being pushed on by a bulged out disc, will get released due to the spine's reaction to the small level change caused by the washcloth.
She suspects that I have asymmetry in my pelvis.
My hip flexors are tight and it's causing my tailbone to sit a bit high. She showed me a good stretch for the hip flexors.

She held me in two positions, relaxing the muscles that are tight and painful. These feel so good! Will try to teach Mike to help me with them.

I also asked her to take another look at that little bone spur under the ankle of my left foot. She told me it probably has built up after an ankle roll or sprain, I have the same thing on my right foot just not as pointy. I can use one of those little "foam donuts" to take the pressure off. She showed me that I have bone abnormalities both above my big toes and baby toes as well.

We agreed that now I have enough exercises and stretches to keep my injury under control and I am able to do pretty much everything I want. So we didn't schedule another appointment.

Lots of crushed glass on the streets, seems like the garbage trucks are dropping it.
