run warm up/down 5:00 [1]
Just did a little bit of jogging up along the flagged course, different than what the description said - it turned left along the field and into the woods instead of crossing the field onto the red trail.

Bimbler's Bash "10k" trail race, Westwoods, Guilford
I was pretty nervous, haven't done a trail race since I was a kid but figuring it should be my thing I wanted to do good. Checking out the race course a couple of weeks ago, also added to the nervousness, not knowing how it was gonna work with lots of people on those tricky trails.
Stood with Will in the front of the pack at the start line and so I managed to get a pretty good position once we entered the woods on the narrow trail. Passing people is somewhat hard while most of the time there are obstacles on both sides of the trail.
Had quite a lot of people around and was slowly passing them until we got on the violet trail. Then Mattias and one other guy was in front of me going uphill. Mattias seemed tired, I passed him. Was right behind the other guy and his groan was getting louder, I told him I would pass as we were under the power line. Shortly thereafter the violet trail turns really nice and fun. I saw another man ahead, but didn't close the gap to him until we climbed the first scramble on the yellow trail. I fell on top of one of those, landed on my hands and knees, not bad though. Got to the aid station and asked if I was the first girl - they said I was. They handed me a cup of water, I took a mouthful and spit it all over myself, oops. The scramble climbs really sucked the energy out of me, but after most of them came some sort of downhill so I had time to recover. Had the same man in front of me all the way into the finish. But there was a gap between us, big enough so that I clearly could see the ground for footing. As we were about to take the last loop on the red trail a girl said we were "11th & 12th, first woman". Heading into the finish we were welcomed by the sound of bagpipes and people cheering. Nice! :)
This was the fifth annual Bimbler's Bash and I believe Will & I set new men/women course records. The race benefited Guilford Land Conservation Trust. Lots of people. I was preparing to give a shout-out to orienteering and WCOC at the price awards but there were none :(
