Some hesitation and extra turns, but nothing major except 13 took me a while to find. Favorite leg: 10 to 11, beautiful!

Oops, was talking to Josefin until about 20min before my sprint start. Ate and drank too much after the middle, didn't feel that good jogging to the start.

Went too much left down in the green for the first control, saw it but didn't think it was mine. Finally got it and Sergiy G who started a minute behind caught me. So, we saw each other for most of the course. I got tricked to run across the bridge leaving 6 and made a loop getting to 7. Overshoot 8.

Note

10mila weekend and I wish I was there. Managed to keep track of my team in between middle and sprint though, talked to my cousin Josefin who ran the 4th leg. She didn't run last year and said it's even more exciting after skipping a year or two, can't wait until I'm back. Our first leg runner Elin managed to move up to top 10 at the first radio after starting way back, but then she took her own route choice and lost the front pack. They finished 135th. Then called Anne-Louise right as they were gathering for the men's start.
Anyway, kind of feeling a bit down and homesick I didn't care so much about this weekends races. I went at a comfortable speed, took it easy through rocky (injury risky) areas and was just enjoying myself. Turns out this worked pretty well, not too far behind the racing girls. Little lazy with my navigation, lots of stops not being completely confident and I think I loose about 20-30s per leg with not planning ahead - I punch, check control code, unfold map and look at the next leg, make a route choice, take compass bearing etc >> area for improvement. But it's so much better than when I'm trying too hard, to think of everything at once - fail - and get disappointed and sad.

After dinner Neil said "forget about tomorrow and come to my place and watch 10mila all night" - tempting but we didn't go. Löftan's men finished 127th.

zumba 1:00:00 [3]

Will do less zumba while I don't think it's beneficial for running, but it does loosen up my body and make me happy. So when choosing one class a week - I choose Jose's.

15 x 1min with 30s rest on the trail going over towards Yale golf course. Windy with ups & downs. Tried to push but got tired. Ran by a guy measuring the trail using one of those wheels with a handle(?). A raccoon and lots of deer.

Wow. Spring is here. Everything's exploding. Warm and humid. Started with the rocky trails up top, was planning to take the orange trail but missed it and went further. Did 5 hillsprints just passed the lake on my way back. Wore glasses.

Really cold air along the water but then turned pretty hot and humid. When we stopped in Essex I was feeling a bit lightheaded and decided to go ahead of the others back.

Note

Got a twig in my eye when I ran with Becky Wednesday. Felt ok afterwards. But woke up at 2am from sharp pain, eye was swollen and tearing. Took nyquil and painkillers to be able to sleep. Mike looked in my eye and found a swollen wound on the inside of the eyelid. I didn't want to drive, so Mike drove me to work. Was able to get some things done, but straining the eye looking at the computer screen wasn't comfortable. My boss told me I should go see a doctor. Got an antibiotic ointment for corneal abrasion. By 3pm Thursday I was home in bed, awful pain that made me cry, ice for the swelling, medicine to sedate me. Didn't get out of bed until 7pm Friday(!) Feeling a little better but eye still not good.

Green course at Paugussett

Still not feeling 100%, was going slow/walking except for when it was downhill or very pretty forest in the sun + gushing streams.

While I took the big trail around to 1, maybe I should have gone to it on the road instead of cut through on the small trail. Happy with 2, ran on contours and checked features along the way. 3 downhill. 4 uphill, walked, met Becky. 5 stopped on a hill about 100m from the control and located the hill where I thought the control should be, just that I could not get everything I was looking at to translate to the map and was confused.. stood there for a while until I went to check for the control, and yes there it was.
6 stone wall, big trail, small trail, a guy who thought I was a bear, hidden control, nice area. 7 saw Lyn who called me out for not walking but I couldn't help myself when it was so pretty. 8 straight on. And along the river to the finish.

Been feeling like I'm coming down with something since Sunday, sore throat, coughing, stuffy nose, dizzy, getting out of breath for tiny things..

Still went to class this morning and it felt fine.

Saw the "Sciatica" thread on AP, recognized a lot of the symptoms and asked April to show me the pigeon pose. She showed me that and a few other useful ones.

run warm up/down 5:00 [1]

Just did a little bit of jogging up along the flagged course, different than what the description said - it turned left along the field and into the woods instead of crossing the field onto the red trail.

Bimbler's Bash "10k" trail race, Westwoods, Guilford

I was pretty nervous, haven't done a trail race since I was a kid but figuring it should be my thing I wanted to do good. Checking out the race course a couple of weeks ago, also added to the nervousness, not knowing how it was gonna work with lots of people on those tricky trails.

Stood with Will in the front of the pack at the start line and so I managed to get a pretty good position once we entered the woods on the narrow trail. Passing people is somewhat hard while most of the time there are obstacles on both sides of the trail.
Had quite a lot of people around and was slowly passing them until we got on the violet trail. Then Mattias and one other guy was in front of me going uphill. Mattias seemed tired, I passed him. Was right behind the other guy and his groan was getting louder, I told him I would pass as we were under the power line. Shortly thereafter the violet trail turns really nice and fun. I saw another man ahead, but didn't close the gap to him until we climbed the first scramble on the yellow trail. I fell on top of one of those, landed on my hands and knees, not bad though. Got to the aid station and asked if I was the first girl - they said I was. They handed me a cup of water, I took a mouthful and spit it all over myself, oops. The scramble climbs really sucked the energy out of me, but after most of them came some sort of downhill so I had time to recover. Had the same man in front of me all the way into the finish. But there was a gap between us, big enough so that I clearly could see the ground for footing. As we were about to take the last loop on the red trail a girl said we were "11th & 12th, first woman". Heading into the finish we were welcomed by the sound of bagpipes and people cheering. Nice! :)

This was the fifth annual Bimbler's Bash and I believe Will & I set new men/women course records. The race benefited Guilford Land Conservation Trust. Lots of people. I was preparing to give a shout-out to orienteering and WCOC at the price awards but there were none :(
