Chiropractor visit

I was wondering why it's been hurting so bad these last couple of weeks, more than it did before we started this treatment. But it makes sense as Gina explained how we're trying to correct muscles/ligaments/tendons that have gotten used to sitting in the wrong position, so they're probably just upset and complaining right now. And I cannot do any activity that would aggravate those muscles while that would possibly make them jump back in the incorrect position.
I tried the heavy ibuprofen-diet without any result or pain relief, so she said I could just stop it.
Gina again mentioned how I don't make sense, I'm in good shape and this should be an easy fix.. we have focused on decreasing muscle knots & loosening up the backside, but now she had me turn around and she pushed her fingers onto my left hip flexor muscle and it hurt so bad I screamed and teared up. So stretching that too might be the missing piece in the puzzle.

Chiropractor visit

2nd visit this week. Gina says she mis-judged the severity of my injury. With the treatment she has given me so far we should have seen more of an improvement. There is less crackin and poppin when she's correcting me and the muscle knots are smaller but she suspects there is scar tissue that is slowing down the process. Even if I'm resting from exercise, I keep aggravating the injury for example just by sitting at work.
Plan now is to eat 3x ibuprofen every 4hrs for 3-4 days and then decrease the dose by one pill a day. Lay down on ice for 30min after work and moist heat for 1hr+ later at night.

Mike & I called in sick to get an extra day with our guests. We went to Watch Hill, RI for some beach & boogie boarding and it turned out to be a beautiful day :)

We orienteered our way through the cornmaze at Lyman Orchard, although the map wasn't too accurate. Sarah & Gordan tried pumpkin pie for the first time.

yoga 25:00 [1]

Yoga makes me feel good :)
+ stretching, I have a program that the chiropractor gave me, I try to do about 20-30 min a day

bike 50:42 [1] 18.96 km (2:40 / km) +61m 2:38 / km

Another easy spin around Old Saybrook. The town green was a sea of American flags honoring the lives lost on 9/11, 10 years ago.

pilates 50:00 [2]

with Mike

bike 55:55 [1] 20.54 km (2:43 / km) +59m 2:41 / km

Maybe I overdid it today. Tough pilates session, some intense cleaning inside and outside the house, and then this bike ride. Was feeling sore starting out and still did the whole loop, frustrated, stubborn.
Interesting to go along the coast and see what Irene left behind.

bike 30:00 [1] 9.0 km (3:20 / km)

to & from downtown. Bangs trim, picked up Bentara takeout and met Mike for a beer at the new Rudy's.

Note

Less training means more time for other things..

Monday I was behind our house cutting some dead twigs and a cat came flying out of its hiding spot under some plants right where I was standing. I screamed out loud. Then I checked out the spot it came from and found kittens!
We made an effort to create a place for them in our garage. I moved them Tuesday after work while they had been out in the pouring rain all day and were just a little shivering ball of fur. But the next day they weren't in the box. We still see the mom in the garage, so we think she moved them somewhere else in there. And now this other pregnant-looking cat is also hanging out in there.

walk 41:52 [1] 3.94 km (10:37 / km) +23m 10:19 / km

Around Westville. Just as I walked across the bridge over West River two guys passed by in a canoe. There is so much water, since the hurricane and from all the rain these last few days. It looked tough, fast gushing water and plenty of obstacles like fallen trees.

yoga 25:00 [1]

Some sun salutations following a DVD. Good stuff.

Chiropractor visit

The big muscle knot by the left SI-joint is getting smaller with each treatment. I also have a bunch of knots in my hamstring muscles (more in the left one). Gina showed me "the stick". Think I might get one of those but I'm using my wooden rolling pin for now. She didn't have any patient coming in after me so I took my time and asked a lot of questions. Like what I can do as I'm feeling sick without training, I need the endorphins, I need to sweat.. can't think of any alternative exercise where the glute/hamstring aren't involved..any ideas?

She said I can go for easy bike rides, do yoga, walk as long as I stay on flat ground, try some soft jogging on a track.
You can't negotiate with mother nature. If I would push it now, it would just jump right back, need to get these muscles back to a normal state as they have been acting wrong for a very long time. Continue with moist heat and stretching to flush out toxins. And ice whenever the muscles are acting up to protect the joint. Gotta behave and have patience. She says when this is fixed I'll notice my endurance will improve.

bike 13:01 [1] 3.0 km (4:21 / km) +13m 4:15 / km

Mike joined me for a bikeride over to the Yale track

walk 11:12 [1] 1.23 km (9:07 / km) +1m 9:05 / km

I've seen people who drive to a track and go for a walk around it and I've thought to myself "that's so lame". Well, here I am.
Went for a slow walk, stopped to stretch and ended with a grammy jog (not as in grammy-Lyn).
