Saturday Mar 12, 2011 #

run 31:42 [2] 6.92 km (4:35 / km) +56m 4:24 / km

Morning run. Legs felt heavy. Stopped to stretch on the beach. Still amazed of the surroundings here.

other (swimming) 10:00 [2]

flipped around in the waves with Mike

run 1:02 [2] 0.21 km (5:00 / km) +4m 4:33 / km

from the hotel reception up to our cottage on top of the hill (must have been more than 4meters climb)

bike 46:00 [2] 15.3 km (3:00 / km) +50m 2:57 / km

to and from Cades Bay
stopped at a fruitstand along the way and got fresh oranges & papaya

other (kayak) 20:00 [1] 1.05 km (19:03 / km) +1m 18:57 / km

through the mangroves, to and from the beach

other (snorkeling) 20:00 [1]

boat from the beach to Cades Reef. And we got to snorkel for an hour. First thing we saw: a huge sting ray(!) kind of freaked me out. Then fishes of all sizes and colors, awesome! Corals. I spotted a big flat fish. Saw some fish traps (cages), funny that they use coconuts as bait.

Thursday Mar 10, 2011 #

bike 1:08:16 [2] 21.82 km (3:08 / km) +123m 3:03 / km

with Mike. Along the road to where it goes up into the rain forest, turned around and back as the sun was setting. And we did take a rocky dirt road down to check out a beach that Omaro recommended.

pilates 35:00 [2]

to the sound of the waves, can't think of a nicer way to start the day

bike (gary fisher mtb) 2:19:19 [2] 36.66 km (3:48 / km) +430m 3:35 / km

with Mike and guide Omaro. Pretty though ride (curious to see total climb once I upload the gps). We started at Darkwood beach and rode along the main road up Fig Tree Road (im a huge fan of fresh figs and was excited, but found out fig means banana here) climbed up through the rainforest, then went offroad for a while, rough at times, did a loop and came back down the main road to where we started.
Really nice ride on a very clear day. Omaro identified the neighbor islands: Nevis, St Kitts, Guadalope and Monserrat with the active vulcano, you can see ash on the top & smoke coming out of it. We passed pineapple plantation, banana-, mango-, coconut- and guava-trees, I had one during one of our breaks, delicious!
Great way to explore! Friendly people waving along the way. Oh, and we got a good view of Mount Obama, highest point of the island ~300m.

Note

Went for a walk with Von the medicine man and a British couple. He talked about the flora and fauna of the island and showed us, had us smell and taste things along the way. Interesting! Fresh mango, yum!

Note

Read a fourth of the book today(!) Yey. Relaxed.

pilates 12:00 [1]

run 34:57 [1] 6.49 km (5:23 / km) +46m 5:12 / km

Jog with Mike, who is slowly recovering from a nasty cold. Cows and egrets seem to like hanging out together.

Note

Will give book reading another try.. See lots of people laying on the beach with a book and it looks nice. Searched through the hotel bookshelf and found 13 books in Swedish(!) My choice: Liza Marklund/James Patterson "Postcard killers" We'll see how it goes..
