Orienteering 1:20:00 [3] 4.6 km (17:23 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc

Formed an ad hoc team with Greg Ehrensing (BAOC) and Greg Porter (ROC) for a really fun Extreme-O short course. Some legs (e.g., strip maps) were really fun; some legs (e.g., out-of-order ground-level photos) were really hard; and some legs (e.g., the human hamster ball) were pretty dorky. But it was all quite a bit of fun, and we worked surprisingly well together as a team. I didn't know what to expect, but would definitely do it again in the future. All around great weekend from GAOC.

Orienteering 1:33:34 [4] 6.9 km (13:34 / km) +260m 11:25 / km
shoes: MudRock IV

GNC, day 2. Not quite as solid navigationally as yesterday, with a really long mistake at 16. I must have mistaken the northerly (small) boulder cluster with the more southerly cluster as I neared the circle. Ended up way too far north, getting lured by one rootstock after another, and got seriously confused with what I thought were some unmapped rootstocks. I should have known when I saw mintore in the vicinity that he was on his way to 19 -- that would have helped me relocate a little better. But I really foolishly assumed that he was looking for the same control that I was. I lost my flow on that leg, and the way to 17 was almost as bad, when I seriously over-ran it. I cleared my head and finished okay, but lost a ton of time on those two mistakes.

Orienteering 1:17:34 [4] 6.4 mi (12:07 / mi) +310m 10:32 / mi
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc

GNC day 1. Fairly clean run, with a couple of route choice errors (4/5 and 6/7) that probably cost me a couple of minutes, and an execution error at 10 that probably cost me another 45 seconds. Otherwise, pretty slow and steady. Clearly the single best thing that I could do to improve my time would be to get in better shape.

Hike 25:00 [1] 1.2 km (20:50 / km)

Checking out the model area at Red Top Mtn. Looks like quite a bit more climb than I have become accustomed to, but the map looks good, and the woods look very open.

Track 15:00 [2] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Salomon

Very easy mile jog, again trying to be extra gentle on the calf.

Track 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +160m 8:35 / mi
shoes: Salomon

Two miles, very slowly so as not to upset the fragile calf.
