Orienteering - hard race 9:00 [4]
shoes: Saucony Kinvara June 2018
My main aim today was to have a first go at runner's choice gaffling and i never actually got to do it... I was told no gps vests needed til this afternoon, but when we were called up at -5 it became clear i needed one now. right now! The organisers faffed for ages before starting to find one. Meanwhile i located Ed, who sprinted to get mine. 3min later i was running straight through the long start boxes and eventually arrived at the startline with 20s to go and default option A chosen for me. Luckily A was a good option and i wasnt too stressed by it all.
Because im still not very quick the race felt comfortable but i wasnt able to run faster. I tried to use my skills at least to stay ahead of myself with route choices, orienteering fine, but on this area that wasnt always rewarded. I actually thought it was only top 2 to go through (my fault!) so maybe i could have found some extra, but probably not. I think i could really enjoy this format and if i train for it at woc i could be okay at it too, but i think it needs to be run on more complex areas than this one to make it fun.
