Note
(rest day)

tempted by club training today, but on boy duty so using that as an excuse to have a rest day - probably well needed after the weekend and no point overdoing it in reaction to the lack of fitness

Orienteering race (JK Day4 - Relay) 41:55 [4] 4.1 km (10:13 / km) +145m 8:41 / km
shoes: Inov 8 x Talons

Mens Premier Relay - Chasers Best with Rhys and Stampy

Rhys had a flyer and came in. in 2nd

Went off tryign to keep it calm, but lost a lense between handover and the start flag so had to stop and swap one over from my right to my left so I could see. Then promptly ran off up the wrong track. Spotted the error and sorted it out quickly enough.

Next error was at #4 where I didn't read the contours and was pissing around in the previous gully which was just stupid.

Then essentially did the same again at #15 where I should ahve just pushed up over the spur but didn't.

Remainder was just pace as per usual - should have been better but enjouyed runnign int he same team as Rhys, which was the point.

Good weekend

Orienteering long (JK Day3 - Long M35L) 1:52:49 [4] 13.7 km (8:14 / km) +310m 7:24 / km
shoes: Inov8 - 2nd pair

Realised yesterday that for the last few years I've been being sensible and running short so actually completing today will be an improvement of sorts.

Kept it steady early on but as I hadn't considered it, didn't take a Gel as it was only 11.3k (straight line) figured it'd be like your average Sunday brown, corrected that theory when the wheels came off at the 80min mark.

Still glad to get round and it marks a returning to the decent distances trend.

No major gaffs but some poor executions did cost time, but overall happy to get round.

Orienteering race (JK Day2 - Middle M25L) 54:36 [4] 6.4 km (8:32 / km) +294m 6:56 / km
shoes: Inov8 - 2nd pair

Went off steady as knew I'd had nothing in me yesterday and so although once again it was my fitness which let me down I did manage to hold it together for longer.

Navigation wasn't too bad, with a couple of poor lines but nothing of the 'where the fuck am I' variety of error.

All in all happy with nav performance but the required levels of physicality of the area and the pace needed just weren't there, but enjoyed and remembered this is the first time I've stepped up to the long at a championships so I'll take it as improvement.

Orienteering race (JK Day1 Sprint - M35) 18:38 [4] 3.7 km (5:02 / km) +10m 4:58 / km
shoes: Adidas glide boost

First run in a couple of weeks due to work craziness and James being ill, so not the best warm up to the JK. Also had a cold most of the last week.

A straightforward course with no real navigational challenges, just ran out of legs really early on and was wheezing which is always a good sign.

Enjoyed it though and took James round his first proper string course so that's a win.
