Park Race race (Wanstead Flats Park race) 27:11 [4] **
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

It would be unfair to say this was a 'bad' race, but I am slightly dissapointed with my race - essentially I lost the race, more so than being beaten - although all praise to katzenjammer for his win, good racing.

Started badly falling within 10 metres of the start while sprinting out of the start and trying to read the map when a ditch came out of knowhere and jarred my leg and rattled me,meaning I fumbled into No.1 overshooting and doubling back.

Still upto No.2 was lying in second out of the top 5 runners, then I blew 3 by overshooting and losing about 20 seconds faffign about - due to not concentrating again! Lookign at Splitsbrowser, pulling this error out put me and Katzenjammer nip and tuck into 6, but by the sounds of it we all took very poor lines on this 'dog leg'. Also lost out opn the return dog leg - major mistake of the course here - very very poor line and dropped a whole minute on the boys here.

After that fairly smooth got caught by katz coming into the final control - realised he'd had a damn good run here, but kicked and stayed ahead for what it counted.

Good race, but need to start navigatign again as once again no idea what that thing on my thumb was for that points North!!!!

Oh and Chig have my prize for best results - up before I got home still in third overall - with Whitesheep, lawerance Ball and Katzenjammer all just behind.................

Urban O race (RMAS Long Sprint) 15:35 [4] *** 3.2 km (4:52 / km)
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Boom!

My 1st, 1st place for a long time - and as the top 5 finishers shows, wasn't an easy field either.

1 Sgt Findlay Robinson R Welsh 15.35
2 Maj Barrett 162 Regt RLC 16.10
3 James Averill RMAS 16.19
4 James Crawford GO 16.23
5 Capt McLeish RMAS 18.13

Happy to have beaten Richard as don't think done it before, hit it hard from the start, was easy to figure out where the start was on the map in the start box so once direction was picked could hammer it.

Flow was poor but this was mainly due to it being EMIT, which is rubbish - but other than that fairoly smooth one or two poor lines and 1 hesitation so could have squeezed out 30-45 seconds I think but pleased with a 35 second lead.

Normal Orienteering race (RMAS Blue course) 46:52 [4] *** 5.2 km (9:01 / km)
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Hmm.... back to normal, don't know whether it was the fact i was still buzzing after the sprint but basically bounced straight out onto the Blue and ballesed up the first 3 - remind me what a compass is for! as I definately wasn't using it, it was definitely just lookign pretty on my hand!!!

Overall well off pace, which was fair as I was just cruising but that should mean my nav was on, but it wasn't - does not bode well for scotland! Must use day 1 toconcentrate and remember how to do long forest nav.

1 Maj Barrett 162 Regt RLC 33.21
NC Maj Dickson RMAS 33.58
2 Capt Bentley 11 Sigs 38.41
3 Mr Freimanis TVOC 39.01
4 Maj McClellan HQ DRLC 40.11
5 James Crawford GO 41.56
6 Sgt Ranson ATR(P) 42.27
7 Maj Adams PJHQ 42.43
8 WO2 Lamen 11 Trg Bn 42.55
9 Mr Gryaznevich TVOC 44.09
10 Ian Ditchfield MV 45.14
11 Maj Derbyshire HMS Sultan 46.05
12 Mr Kingham TVOC 46.34
13 Sgt Findlay Robinson R Welsh 46.52

Note

Went climbing with Jayne and Todd. - Was fun

Think to improve I need to rock up and spend some time bouldering tobuild my arm strength back up as pretty pathetic at present.

Will go again for definite, if i don't ruin the others climbing cred too much!

Running (with light backpack) 1:35:00 [3]
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Nice run taking in the ups and downs of North London - worked hard and nearly broke when after weaving through Hampstead Heath for a while came back to the point where I'd entered on the east instead of emerging on the west as planned!!

Running 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Nice little run, went up the hill from swiss cottage into the heath and bumbled around, plenty of hills/bumps, lush sunshine and woods - good for the soul.

Not feeling too good out there, but a few more days of this and some rehydration, might be ready for the scottish

Swimming 15:00 [3]

Birthday spalsh for Jayne in the mixed pond on the heath - lush should definately hit it up again this week.

Trail Run (Jaynes Birthday Route) 1:13:00 [3] ** 14.5 km (5:02 / km)
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Recce'd Jaynes route for saturday - was fun, except street map doesn't work that well in the wooded bits (that or my nav sucked)

Enjoyed

Park Race race (Hyde Park Race) 27:53 [4] **
shoes: Lunar glides 2 1st pair

Even though one of my worst positions in the series (7th) beat Nick by 1 second and all the speed demons were present so happy with the run.

No real 'errors' as such just a couple of poor lines, so not bad all in all

Two races left
