orienteering race 1:07:00 [2]
(injured)
Very cautious. The calf was very tight at the start, and I had to keep my stride very short. Couldn't push off with any strength, so uphills were a little lopsided, or tiny baby steps. Downhill was generally okay as long as my feet landed fairly straight. Flat was fine. Jumping over things was variable, so I ended up trying to always push off my left leg, which took a lot of concentration. At times it eased off, then something would jar it and it would get tight again.
As for navigation: generally okay with two stupid mistakes (lack of brain rather than lack of skill). First I ran RIGHT by my control on the .7 m boulder thinking the stone I was passing was too small to be mapped. Eventually turned around and ran back to it, when my pace count was too far over. It was hard to pace count accurately today as my stride was altered by my calf. Still I should have checked the rock - it was right on my line!! Then at number 10, code 111, I said, "Okay 11, now 12" and headed off. Things seemed a bit off, and I got way too far before I realized.
I think I'll claim that both mistakes were due to my concentration being affected by focusing so much on my leg.
Still: the main thing is that I did NOT injure myself further, and therefore have not hurt myself prior to the marathon in 2 weeks.
orienteering (shadowing) 30:00 [1]
Shadowing Ethan - fartlek with periods of rest! He ran all the way up the darned hill though, so I had to too! Leg tight, but getting looser.
