XC Ski (Skating) 38:30 [3]
ahr:155

Evening workout at Gunstock - new snow, fairly cold - skiis waxed for warmer conditions, so it's kinda sluggish.
First time out with new heart rate monitor - did't get GPS linked into watch to determine pace, etc.

Walking 1:00:00 [1]

Was going to snowshoe at Ahern Park, but snow depth was only about 3-4" of powder on top of hard crust. Snowshoes would have made it more of a workout, but weren't necessary. Found a new trail someone has marked - need to add to map.

XC Ski (Classic) 1:20:00 [3]

Gunstock had 5-8" of powder. They had done some rolling in the morning, but it wasn't really evident. Went classic with waxed skiis. Tracks were sloppy- minimal technique work. busting trails in a few parts, loose powder half way up to my knees.
Lots of arm workout
Temp - 15 F, still snowing lightly throughout

XC Ski race (Skating) 29:00 [5] ****
spiked:10/12c

Ski-O at Proctor Academy in Andover. Short/sprint format. Low teens, hard crust, granular conditions. Didn't warm up properly. Felt tense and sluggish on the uphills - couldn't relax and work them hard. Took some slightly longer routes to avoid unknown downhills, or to avoid going back down the hill I just went up. Snow cover a bit thin in places, not much to work an egde on to check speed coming down hills. "Snowshoe" trails in the woods were streamered fortunately - otherwise you'd never know where they were. They were generally fast, just had to be careful to not catch a tip on a tree or branch. Beat Aims by 1 second on first go-round. He went out again to try a second set of skiis. Ernst got me by over a minute - mostly attributable to me dogging it on hills

XC Ski warm up/down (Skating) 25:00 [2] ***

Warm-up, cool down & goofing around before and after the race.

XC Ski (skating) 2:30:00 [3] **

Sewall Woods in Wolfeboro - excellent place for a ski-o!! Incredibly complex trail network. Skiied with map holder and trail map - need to tighten up the arm, kept on flopping down. Conditions were variable. Some spots were cold dry powder, others were icy, others were warmer and wetter. Kick waxing would have been challenging. Coming back from the Abnaki trail system was drained going up the hills. Watch timer kept on getting shut off when glove hit stop button. Technique was pretty good - trails more technically challenging than at Gunstock - more twists and turns, with small ups and downs.
Realized later, while map gazing at the trail map, that the Sewall Woods section is shown at 1:10,000, while the Abenaki area is shown at 1:20,000, with there being no particular scale for the network trail in between...

XC Ski (skating) 1:17:00 [4]

About 8" of new snow. came down heavy and wet -a lot stuck to tree branches. Quite a few branches down, some trees still bowed across trails. Some areas still a bit soft - had to work on the uphills. Felt good.

XC Ski (Skating) 1:26:00 [5] 9.6 km (8:57 / km)

Windblown Ski-O - skating. Warm - upper 30s?. Some navigational errors - and some complete brain cramps...

XC Ski (Classic) 1:06:00 [5] 8.7 km (7:35 / km)

Windlbown Ski-O Classic - 2d go-round after 30 minute break. Even warmer - 40s?. In some spots was skiing in mush. Better navigationally (of course!!). Wasn't as wiped as I thought I'd be.

XC Ski (Skating) 1:40:00 [4]

Warm and kept getting warmer. About 30 F when I started. Snow very variable. Some areas still powder, parts were dry and faster, parts were wet and slower. Some areas in the sun had glazed.
Did the upper Cobble trails - a lot of vertical!!
Used my new(er) skiis- Fischers. Waxed with -2 to +4 glide wax - probably the best for today's conditions. Considered doing some classic also, but I was wiped and the conditions were going downhill - only had my waxless skiis with me, which would have been very slow.

XC Ski (Skating) 32:00 [4]

2x Cobble Mountain loop - 5 pm, no head lamp. light was fading during the 2d loop.
Got about 3-4" of heavy wet snow overnight. Some areas still powdery, others had glazed. Variable conditions. Only the Cobble loop had been groomed/packed.
Inner thigh muscles still quite sore from classic earlier in the week.

Exer Bike 30:00 [2]
max:135 weight:77.1kg

Exercise bike in the hotel workout room - drone along in mindless mode. Broke a sweat, but didn't really push it.
Inner thigh muscles sore - probably from classic skiing.

XC Ski (Classic) 32:00 [4]

First time classic this season - I'm sure I'll feel it tomorrow. Noon time workout.
Intesity for classic is overall higher than for skating. Back and forth on the camping parallel trails, then up the hill by the jumps - added more trails there than I remember from past years.
Used waxless skiis, conditions were variable - all good hard pack, areas in sun much wetter.
