Feeling the effects of the ongoing cold - not a lot of energy, runny nose, winded.

Met a guy going up Maple who was gushing about having skied up to the tower on Rowe Ridge, he was skiing well - kicking my ass. Light flicks of his poles, powering up the S curve by the connector, and out of sight.

Note

Clearing the driveway and the paths in the back yard and the neighbors. Then started working on clearing some stuff off the roof. Warmer temps with some ice ridges already formed can end up with some undesirable results.
Some raking, then shoveling, then crawling around up there with a hatchet using the back side to bust up ice chunks and slide them down. Got soaked in the process, but think all the melt will flow downhill and not back up and into the attic and then the dining room / living room.

Ended up taking 3 hours overall.

Was going to head over to pick up controls, but the grandkids showed up to work on the saucer chute - which turned out to be a wonderful 2 hours of playing and sliding.

Picking up the last controls from yesterday out on the narrow trails. Late afternoon start with temps around 30 and some sun - delightful.
had the smaller green TSL snowshoes - not specifically a running snowshoe, but served that purpose quite well. Feeling more energetic than I expected, was able to run up most of the Cobble S and keep it up along the real snowshoe trails. Red Feathers would have been inadequate for much of the snowshoe trails - just too much snow and too soft. Had considered using the larger 9x30s with the new show fall, but those would have been tougher to run in - remembering back to my inaugural snowshoe races several years ago at Gunstock, when I ran in those and died fairly quickly.

Note

Ski-O at Gunstock.
Had put out all of the controls on the narrow trails the night before, so just had the ones on the main trails to do.
Kale from the XC center drove me around on the snowmobile and got all the ones on the far S end out, then the snowmobile broke down on the way back in. I set a couple more controls on the run back to the clubhouse, as Kale ran to get the other snowmobile. Took him a bit longer to get back than expected, but with the temps still pretty cold figured any early arrivals wouldn't mind waiting in the warm clubhouse for all the controls to get out.

Expended a lot of nervous energy, but no real workout expect the short run back to the clubhouse and some pacing as I wondered if more than 2 people would show up, which they did just before noon when the temps were much more reasonable.

Putting out controls and hitting all of the significant trails after the last dusting. Cold, but dressed for it - had a good time, but still stressed as I always am the day before hosting a race.
I think my GPS quit before the end with the cold, so the track only shows the first 50-60%. Ended up out there close to 3 hours - calm and peaceful.

Putzing around during kid's ski lessons. Some drills and light coaching.
Sent kids out at intervals around Cobble - Jen was cold and fussy, so took her back to the clubhouse, then reversed Cobble. Eliza and the fast kids were down by the equipment yard, found Ryan and Ben up past the top of the Cobble S - chatted with then and got them down the hill in fine style and headed back to the barn. Headed back out to check on Kim and Kyle - back up the S hill - ran into them near Birch, still doing fine.
