Looks weird with both cottages gone.

red Course at Whitaker Woods in N Conway.

Nice map, nice area. A few too many trails for great advanced courses, but Peter Goodwin did a good job taking advantage of the available terrain.

Got blown away by Ernst, squeaked in ahead of Tony.

Run/hike up to Piper from the base of the Carriage Road and run back down - final blueberrying session of the season.
Got maybe a cup - and had to search for those.
Nice and cool - I like fall weather.

Trail Run at Chemung - crew must have been out earlier in the day doing some work, as sections were raked, and breshwas cut back in several areas.

this will be a great area for O - just lacks extensive parking to be a good A-meet location. Enough space for a local meet though.

Locke Hill Trails - first clockwise, then counter-clockwise to get in more distance and elevation.

Was getting pretty dark as I finished - a bit hairy the last few minutes coming down the quarry trail with a lot of slippery rocks and an uneven trail.

Orienteering race 2:09:12 [3] **** 9.5 km (13:36 / km)
shoes: Ice Bug Poison

Camping Weekend - Sunday Blue course.

A bit hesitant about running blue, after blue yesterday and the WHNO, which I was feeling the effects of.

405 was dead, and my Timex battery is on its last legs - tried to take splits with it, but that overwhelmed what little battery was left and it completely reset to 12:00:00, 1/1/xx. Was afraid I'd be running without a timepiece at all - how would I know when it was time to call it a day and just head in, what about nap time, etc??? But realized with it resetting to 12:00:00, as long as that kept running, would know how long I'd been out.

fairly clean run, with a couple exceptions. Wandereed a bit even before the road on the way to one, mostly becasue I was still flustered abotu my watch, but settled down and nailed it the rest of the way. Heading out of 1, took the first small trail rather than crossing it to the 2d, recovered fairly quickly and did OK the rest of the way, although I was a bit apprehensive with the limited sight lines.
Lost my thimb compass somewhere between 6 & 7, I think. Was getting a Gu packet opened, squeezing it into my mouth, then as I was putting the empty packet into my pocket, realized I had my map in my hand but no thumb compass. Circeld back in attempt to find it, but no luck. Reverted to backup plate compass I've been carrying around my neck, in anticipation of smashing a thumb compass and went on my way. a bit of adjustment, but did OK with it.
Getting some twinges in my legs, but managed to avoid full out cramping.

J-J's Wicked Hard Night-O.
First for me, after numerous starts, this is the first i've gotten all the controls.
Secret for success this year - be smart out of the start and while everyone else is running throug the forest, take the trail right beside where they are floundering, tuck in behind th fast guys and get out to the road quick. Don't be tempted by those who go straight across the road and into the woods, be smart, look at your map and go a couple hundred meters to the trail. Let others pass you as they see fit, but keep contact with them.

When the going gets tough, chase beautiful women through the woods and hang with them as long as you can (thanks Ali, Carol and Alex!!)
That worked for me until about half-way from 9 to 10 when they just got away from me and I was on my own. Deep in the heart of Pawtuckaway, in the dark of the night, just me, alone, with a map and compass...
Did OK from there with a couple of bobbles. Saw Dean Sturdevant just before 12, heard Alex floundering around in the thick stuff and splashing (??) to our left. Punched just after Alex, hung with her between the marshes, the slowly faded again. Major bobble after hitting the linear marsh on the way to 14, getting discouraged, then as I was in the process of bailing out to the trail to locate and reattack, came across it.

Finished as the first adult male - not too shabby!! Got beat by the Childs brothers, then 3 three gals (who just happen to be on the US / Canadian national teams).

Kayaking 1:05:00 [1]

Kayaking from Ahern beach up to the islands, and back.

As I turned back, realized I'd had the benefit of a tailwind...
