Base of the Carriage Rd, up the Gunstock Mtn Trail, over to Belknap, then Piper and down the Piper Mtn trail. A lot of folks out on the trails today. Pleasant, but humid.

Burnt Mtn iOrienteering - Red course Looks like I pushed stop on my watch at control 3, so this is missing the debacle that was 2-3. Ran S out of 2, crossed the small trail and the narrow marsh, then was further S of the 2nd marsh. Saw the abandoned truck (X partially masked by the control number printed on the map and got flustered. Back up the trail a little bit, hit 2-3 knolls N of the correct one with lots of rock, but couldn't make sense of things. Back to the trail, down to the truck, found another X much further S on the map and convinced myself I'd really overrun. Took a bearing from that X and headed back NNE, but of course nothing made sense. Found a marsh, and floundered up it - hit the small trail where it crossed the marsh. Confirmed my stupidity, back to the N-S trail, and more careful heading in - saw the other knolls I'd searched around, kept going and made my way into it. 20 minutes for what should have been a 3-minute leg. Also messed up 9 pretty good - realized later that when I was vetting, this control had been NE of this final location. Approached from the E, swung around the N side of the knoll with the rock faces, but then didn't see the small knoll in the green. From my track, I lost 5 minutes on this - was within spitting distance, but went walkabout instead.
