Gunstock with Ben, low 20s, cloudy.
A few sections in pretty good shape - hard and icy overall, and fast.
Easy ski.

XC Ski (Skating) 1:00:00 [3]
ahr:154 max:170 shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Wasn't sure I'd get out today - up at 4:00 to take Tim down to Logan and feeling tired all day.
Nothing like the thought of a good ski to pick up the spirits.
Gunstock - Not quite as good as yesterday, but still OK.
Cobble loop, logging road, CCW loop, down by brook, back to Cobble.
Over to beginnner's area - then over to pines area - flashback to a hilll workout in high school, Coach Mike Workman running along beside me yelling "up that hill, up that hill" As I remember, I wanted to smack him....

Gunstock - Not too bad, considering how much rain we got on Monday. Looked like about 2-3" of snow at the end. Some washouts across the trails, and a few spots where the snowmobile got bogged down in slush.

Cobble loop, out lower logging road to meadow, up the steep section, then over and down along the brook. Back through the meadow to the sand pit, then up and started going along the upper trail back - groomer/roller had only taken one pass, multiple washouts, etc. Turned around at the top of the steep S curves, back aloing the upper, down thru the sand pit and back along the lower road.
fineshed the Cobble loop, then over onto the beginner section for a few minutes.

Warming up - mid 30's.

Some areas have been regroomed recently - much firmer than areas that were only rolled last weekend.
Reversed Cobble loop - up 9, crossed over to meadow, up the long creek trail, back along the lower. then continued Cobble reverse.

XC Ski (skating) 1:06:00 [3]
ahr:155 max:176

Great conditions at Gunstock. Went about 9:30 as it was supposed to warm up a bit later on. Most everything was groomed - a few spots where the ground underneath isn't frozen yet.
Conditions pretty much as good as they get - for skating at least.

Upper Body (shoveling snow) 45:00 [1]

about 8" of good snow with maybe 1/4" of sleet / ice on top, then the skies cleared out

Opening day at Gunstock - about 8". Cobble loop pretty crappy, lowest trail by the brook was washed out by the floods and hasn't been repaired yet. Next trail up was rolled, but wet as the ground hasn't frozen and there's still an awful lot of groundwater.
They only rolled to the bottom of the hill up the back side of Cobble, then had run a snowmobile around 3 or 4 times. Someone had skiied ahead of me, but they were on waxless classics - I was trying to skate. The long backside downhill was OK, could skate in a few places, double poled the rest. The long trail to the south end was up and back - also not rolled.
A few loose rocks here and there coming down the Cobble S curves, someone had done an impressive wipe out earlier. Last part of Cobble loop coming back by the road was rolled, but had been blown bare near the top.
Crossed the road by the entrance / stream. THe beginner trails were OK, but I'd run out of steam.
