Canoeing 1:35:00 [2]

Winnisquam with TIm.

Put in a Bartlett beach, along southern shore almost to Mosquito bridge. Took a dip at the sand bar and return.

Sun and wind in our face on the way out, no wind in the way back, but it was still faster.

Run (trail) 41:00 [3] 4.5 mi (9:07 / mi)
ahr:156 shoes: Nike Air Assail Trail

Ahern - still very wet from all of the rain yesterday. Standing or running water on many trails sections. Finally gave up trying to keep my feet dry, shouldn't have worn cotton socks.

Run (treadmill) 20:00 [2] 2.2 mi (9:05 / mi)
shoes: Brooks

Treadmill at hotel.

Another lousy day in a lousy week, but at least I got my heart rate up a bit today...

Hiking 3:45:00 [2] * 7.5 mi (30:00 / mi) +780m 22:40 / mi
shoes: Merrill Hikers

Hike up Mt Chocorua solo. Parked at Paugus Mill Rd lot, went up Brook Trail (3.6 mi), descended Liberty Trail (3.9 mi).

Guide book time for ascent is 3 hrs, 5 mins, I did it in 2 hrs, descent took 1:45.

Beautiful day, a bit warm down lower and lots of black flies and mosquitos. Bugs eased off as I got higher. Gentle breeze at the summit, partly cloudy, with some haze blurring the distant mountains.

Didn't see anyone on the way up until the summit. Passed 3 groups coming up as I went down, and one young woman who thought she was heading up the Brook Trail - must have missed the signs in the parking lot.

Canoeing 45:00 [1]

Saltmarsh Pond in Gilford. Shortly before dusk, mosquitos not too bad. Lot's of folks out fishing. It's nice tooling around a pond where theree's no motorized craft.

My back was a little stiff, from the session 2 days ago on Winnisquam and 8 hours of construction yesterday.

One of these days I need to go on vacation when I take a vacation from work...

Canoeing 1:35:00 [3]

Winnisquam - launched from Ahern
A pretty good breeze blowing from the NW right into it across the lake to the west shore then turned and headed up towards the N end. Tried to stay close enough to the shore to get some shelter fromthe wind and it worked most of the time. Got up even with the islands in about an hour and decided I'd had enough. Cut around the islands and headed back closer to the eastern shore. Wind picked up even more - waves were running a foot to a foot and a half, with some white caps. Made it back in 35 minutes, and didn't work near as hard on the 2d half. Some 4 effort out bound, 1-3 .

Very few idiots out on the lake at 8 am, maybe they were still sleeping it off. A few folks out fishing, but had the lake mostly to myself.

Canoeing 1:15:00 [1]

Pemigewasset Lake in Meredith.
An interesting mix of small individual camps, larger commercial camps with lots of beach and boats, and at least one summer camp, with a waterfront and marked advanced and beginner swimming areas. Flash back way too many years to my first job on the waterfront at boy scout camp.

Saw a pair of loons with a baby loon, a few red-winged blackbirds and a heron passing by.

Canoeing 45:00 [2]

Spin around Opeche
Warm, not much breeze
A bit of motorized traffic cut down on the enjoyment level.
A lot of water coming through from Paugus Bay and on to the Winnepesaukee River lake level still very high.
