XC Ski (Skating) 30:30 [2] 4.7 km (6:29 / km) +60m 6:06 / km
ahr:147 shoes: '03 Yellow Fischer Skating

Did get on snow before the end of the year. About 4" of powder over gravel - those are now rock skiis.

At Gunstock, on the camping lanes. Found a lane that seemed to have a bit of cover from the previous storm that hadn't all melted under the 4" of powder, so I only ground to a halt a few times. Back and forth about 8 times, then had moved most of the snow off.

It was fairly pleasant,so decided to call it quits on the skiing and go for a run on the not yet snow covered ski trails.

Run (Trails / Woods) 29:10 [2] 5.0 km (5:50 / km) +110m 5:15 / km

Further exploration of what' being done to the XC trails of Gunstock. Having to do it on foot, since the snow cover is all staying out west, sadly.

Checked out the hairly trails up the upper slopes of Cobble Mtn. I don't think I've ever sent folks up there for a ski-O, since it is only skiable in the best of conditions.

Looks like they're cutting a trail across the center of this that will come out where the old Cobble trail transtions from the narrow scramble up from the brook to the wider trail that angles up the hill over to the holding pond.

With those few inches of snow covering the trails, it was hairy footing climbing up, and I made the mistake of being tentative coming down. Better to just let loose and trust there'll be a tree to catch yourself on somewhere near the bottom.

Need to set up a blown up map and get out and draftin where the new trails are cut, then see how they groom it once we get snow.

Just committed to a Ski-O on Feb 10th, hope there's snow cover by then.

Small bike trails at Ahern in a couple of inches of snow.
Then up the snowmobile trail behind the prison, to Robbie Mills field, back along the roads. Snowmobile trails still closed, not enough snow cover, so it wasn't icy yet. Did hit a few not quite frozen enough puddles - thank god for wool socks...

On Bob Lux's new map of Nottingcook Forest in Bow - except is was just a photocopy of his field notes. A few errors due to have to translate on the fly - red Xs are boulders, dashed lines could be trails or form lines ...
had a couple of good blunders, but it was great to be out in the woods.
