Mapping 1:00:00 [1] ***

About 2 hours mapping a RV Farm - no Garmin, so not sure of the total distance covered or overall climb.
Toughest part is the contours, working from a sketchy USGS is challenging, particularly as I work my was around the hill. Ended up with 4 contours on one side of a trail, 5 on the other - needx to relook at that section...

Mapping 30:00 [1]

Just over an hour of mapping. Should have gone for a run first - no time or energy afterwards - starting to get sluggish.

Short trail run a RV Farms to loosen up a bit. Shorter than I had planned - boss called 10 minutes into the run, issue at work to discuss, so headed back to the car.

Green-X at Baldwin Hill. Cool and overcast - nice running weather.

Very nice course - woods were supposedly very slow due to blowdown, but other than a few spots, weren't too bad. Fairly clean run, other than 9, but that wasn't fatal.

Was able to maintain nice contact with the map

CSU Middle distance qualifier.
Turned the map over and saw lots of green, but couldn't find the start triangle. Jogging towards down the trail, finally found it, but was challenged in figuring out which direction I was approaching it from. Had one of those "you're about to do something stupid moments, slow down and get it right" moments.

Caught up to Glen Tryson, who'd started a minute ahead of me, at the first control, and it seemed to just get better from there.

Orienteering race 29:34 intensity: (7 @0) + (14 @1) + (4 @2) + (3:04 @3) + (25:59 @4) + (6 @5) **** 3.76 km (7:52 / km) +51m 7:22 / km

Green-X Final
Won M50! and only edged out by Ernst who won M55.

Evening trail run at RV Farm. Nice and cool - light snow flurries getting into the car for the drive over.

US Classic Champs - day 2.

Hard fall just outside the circle for #8 - knocked most of the sense out fo me, along with any contact with the map.
Smacked the back of my right hand down hard on rocks covered with leaves - nice contusion - lots of immediate swelling and a bit of blood. Lost at least 8 minutes.

Piper - Belknap - Gusntock Loop from the base of the Carriage Road.
Cool and crisp, with a good breeze up top.
Not many folks out yet - Hal was up in the tower, one hiker with dog as I was coming down from the tower, and two folks manning the top of the chair lift at Gunstock - bundled up and not looking too warm.

Mtn bike trail run at Ahern. Saw some mtn bikers a couple times, fortunately not headon on a narrow trail with no room to step aside.

Found some more new trails on the southern part of the map - a lot of twists and turns. When I think about mapping them, all that comes to mind is that there is going to be a lot of black on the map. Trails above and below rock faces - multiple parallel black lines on an already crowded map.

They seem to have no issue cutting swaths through someone's woods to make a trail where they want it to be...

Light drizzle, but much better outside than in the hotel exercise room.

Mapping 10:00 [1]

about 1 hour mapping at RV Farms. Focusing on one section bounded by a distinct trail loop. USGS crap for a base map, plus a GPS'd trail map that one of the trustees has put together.
Morphing from 20' contours to 10' / 3m, so am interpolating a new contour in between. Should get easier as some of the leaves start to come down, although there are sections of pine and hemlock that will continue to be a challenge.

5 x hill repeats at RV Farm, plus warmup and gentle run following.

:55 -1:03 up, 2:30 - 3:00 jog back down between.

A few folks out on the trails today - very pleasant. Finally feeling fall-like, rather than the tropical summer feel of last week.

Mapping 15:00 [1]

Hour and a half mapping at RV Farms - decided to dive back into it, even without a good base map.

ahr:151 max:162 shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212s

Trail run from Gunstock Parking lot. Up Cobble curves, out to the meadow, then out trail 20 towards Round Pond. Did the loop of the E Gilford Trail, Red marked Fire Road, then back up the E Gilford Tr to the Trail 20 junction. Headed up the trail 7 loop, then looked for any scent of a mtn bike trail up onto the ridge - thinking that will be good area to add narrow Ski-O trails, but only found the indistinct hiking trail I'd marked in the spring - no sign of any recent use.

Inaugural session with the X-Talons 212s - pretty nice. Very light, fit well - no heel rub, maybe a 1/4 size too large, but the recently retired Mudclaws were size 10 and they were on the verge of being tight in the toes. Thin soles - could feel some of the pointier rocks on the trail, similar to the New Balance 572 Trail shoes.
