Mud run at Ahern. Some very wet and soft spots. A few patches of snow/ice left in very shaded spots.
Pushing 80 - weird excuse for spring.

Note

Pulled a tick out of the back of my leg this morning. Not sure what outing I picked it up on, assuming the adventure with the grandkids, as we were rustling around in the leaves a few times. Afternoon run was all on trails, not much vegetation to brush up against.

Will keep an eye on it - site it all messed up - dark red/black in the center about 3/8 " across and tender. Had an unexpired prescription for antibiotic that I renewed in case...

Run intervals 38:43 intensity: (4:00 @0) + (3:10 @1) + (6:44 @2) + (19:26 @3) + (5:23 @4) 6.2 km (6:14 / km) +27m 6:07 / km

A warm late afternoon - decided i need some speed in my legs, and rather than fooling myslel into thinking I'm going fast on a trail, opted for the track.

Plan was for 400, 200, 400, 200, with the 400s at about 105 and the 200s at 45. Ended up doing an extra 200 at the end for the fun of it. 200m walk recovery in between.
105, 45, 108, 48, 49.

Quite a few folks out and about.

Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 1.5 mi (40:00 / mi)

Hike / adventure at Chemung trails with Ryan and Jen - we all had a blast, even though we didn't see a beaver or a beaver house.
Stayed mostly dry - cool enough that the patches of ice and snow were slippery, but not wet enough to soak small people when they landed on their butts, which happened a lot.
4 PM

Run hills 1:36:06 intensity: (23 @0) + (1:55 @1) + (26:58 @2) + (54:00 @3) + (12:50 @4) 9.09 km (10:34 / km) +504m 8:17 / km

Trail run - base of the Carriage Road, up the Red Trail to the top of Piper ( and a bit beyond), doubled back, then the Orange Trail to the White Trail to the top of Belknap. Down the Blue Trail and Carriage Road.

very warm - car said 77F when I started. A few cool spots in some of the gullies, then a 30 degree warm up in 5 meters climbing up the other side and back into the sun.

A lot of folks out and about.

So skiing off a hangover is preferable to running off one, less jarring...
Company event in Boston last night, stayed over and came back north this morning. Contemplated just hanging on the couch, but the 3-4" of fresh powder changed my mind.

Skis were pretty fast on the wet granular, not so much on the fesh wet powder.

Think it's time to change the battery in my HR monitor chest strap - readings died about half-way through.

63 F at 5:30 - so decided to not go and see how the skiing might be - opted for a run instead.

Had to work a few kinks out, but overall felt OK.

Pretty good conditions - thought I'd waxed too warm, but then the temps started to climb.

A few rocks here and there, but most of the trail south of Cobble were in reasonable shape.

Did some additional back and forth to get over 20 kms.

Another couple inches of snow on top of the 8-10" from Thursday, but it turned to rain as I was heading over to Gunstock. Almost turned around and went back home, but figured the snow was still out there, I was probably going to be working up a sweat, so I'd be wet anyways.

A bit of a crust on top of the new powder. Putzing around on some of the narrow trails I'd cleared for Ski-O - need to check if Paul will take a snowmobile out and pack some of them in for a possible ski-o in the near future.

A bit concerned when I saw a flash and heard thunder - been a while since I've skied in a thunderstorm. Rain was off and on. Glad I'd brought dry stuff to change into back at the car.

This was good. Needed an after work decompress - what is better than an hour plus on skis with good conditions on all the trails.

Had my headlamp, but only needed it for the last 20 minutes.
Had the place to myself - was expecting my buddy the night watchman to be sitting by my car when I got back to run me off again, but he must have been tied up elsewhere.

Contemplated goin on back country skis - maybe tomorrow when the sleet / rain tapers off.
